I have no doubt a lot of any players hate comes from those two reasons. People want to justify their positions on why they passed on certain players so they root for failure and troll player threads to make themselves feel better or so they can say "i told you so" to a bunch of strangers on a message board they'll never meet. I will never understand this kind of thinking. I sold most of my Ohtani's before last year including his Sapphire RC and that ended up being a huge mistake. Doesn't mean i want the guy to fail now just bc I sold low. I just like watching exciting talent and Ohtani has been that the last two seasons. Amazing to watch

The only people I feel bad for are the ones that sold early because they had to when COVID first hit. I had quite a few people reaching out to offer liquidation prices for their Ohtani auto/rare cards. He was anything but a lock at that point, but I would definitely feel some bitterness at the situation (not at Ohtani) if I were them. I think that the timing of the price spike has a lot to do with it TBH. Ohtani's breakout was a perfect storm.

I have had the following Ohtani cards:
2017 bowman one of one!
5- 2017 bowman orange megas
3- 2017 bowman green megas
2- 2017 bowman purple megas
not to mention many 2017 chrome megas
sold them all and made a very nice profit.
Sorry now I sold them but that's the way it goes.
Still love watching him play and hope only the best for him.

He was around it for a bit. Clearly not an instigator but it's often the guys on the outside that get shoved. There's a lot to look at in that dust up.
