Well, honestly, the deluge of Yankees and Dodgers day after day up until the last couple weeks or so pretty much turned me off as a buyer overall for the series. (Not stopped but definitely slowed until issue was seemingly addressed.) I'm way down from last year for example ... though, yep, at least one of my buys has been a Yankee. (Beck Mantle.)

My gut feeling is that the Yankees-Dodgers issue wore some other people out, too. It's not a new issue (sales vs. representation with MLB merch, coverage, etc.) but the percentage here seemed abnormally high -- and the top three worst-sellers so far are also telling ... reinforcing that perhaps there were too many. (Imagine the percentage of Yankees/Dodgers/Mets here applied to a pack and then imagine opening pack after pack that way. Not fun.)

Low sellers
1. 1986 Gerrit Cole by New York Nico -- 1,100 (Yankees)
2. 1989 Matt Kemp by Mimsbandz -- 1,116 (Dodgers)
3. 2016 CC Sabathia by Joshua Vides -- 1,162 (Yankees)

400 art cards were a lot last year, but the project was designed to drive collectability, player/artist etc. Without that element built into the design of the project, the pr would have been much lower last year imo.

100%....I miss the 'feel' of P2020...P70 seems scattered, imo. Doesn't hold the collectability or value that P2020 did for me.

Yeah me neither. Especially since he could flip back to making atrocious looking babies at any time, leaving me with one out of place card in my collection. My ocd twitches just thinking about it.

PRs in the last couple of weeks of P70 should determine that. But they may not, as if Topps wanted to roll into another project they’d have to line it up earlier than that.

I think it’s much lower than 800.
But even at 800 per, this is still likely a very profitable release.
Sold the cheapest way (individual ten packs), that’s still $11.6k per card, or $46.4K revenue per day.

I prefer things more wide open than locked into 20 cards where, basically, I might not care for 15 of them. That said, I think the subject -- teams and players -- have to be managed to make sure it makes sense.

One recent example that left me scratching my head beyond Yankees-Dodgers issue? Frank Viola. Never been a player on cards ... I'm not sure I'd put/allow him in this set at all unless there was some really amazing concept fueling his inclusion. (For example, Coco Crisp is not a big name at all big-picture, but the 'Fro card is a nod to his epic 'fro and Oscar Gamble so it works.)

It's smart in a few ways ... I just don't have a need for any Freeman cards. If it was in front of me and cheap I might grab but not really a need at the SRP.

I do think there is a lot of burnout with this. We're getting close to card 200, if this was a 400 card set it would be "ok, its a lot but we're almost half way there and doing 20 cards a week so it won't be too much longer" Instead, we're not even at the 20% mark.

A nod to Coco Crisp's epic run and Oscar Gamble meets the standard of a 'really amazing concept'?

Phew!

I haven't checked eBay in a while and was worried you were going to say Shore McGwire, Gibson, Mattingly...

It is a play on "Ben Baller did the chain"

I absolutely LOVE the Baller Matsui card. I was wondering if we may get some anime style art having like Toy Tokyo in the set and stuff and I'm stoked we have some here
