Long term, if Yordan becomes a big star, people will want his 2018 Bowman Chrome Autograph and his 2019 ACTUAL rookie cards.
So nobody will want his cards with the RC logo next year? More for me then.

His 2nd year cards will be hot upon release, but I don't see a long term value for them. Topps is trying to be slick.

But his RCs won't be out until 2020 so how will people want his 2019 RCs?

His RC should be 2019 due to the fact he is going to be the AL ROY. However Topps decided to hold him back to 2020 S1 to carry the product (along with Bichette).

So what guys on here are saying is that his 2019 Bowman cards, will be more desirable due to the fact that they are from his actual baseball rookie season.

I know. I'm saying he won't have any 2019 RCs so it's a moot point. Or moo if you are Joey Tribbiani.

No, I'm with you. I think his 2020 stuff is going to sell like crazy. I should probably lock in a case of Series 1 now.

When Yordy is the 2019 WS MVP, casual clectors will want his cardboard and ink. They will go to BC 18/19, BB 18, Contenders 18, and Optic 19.

Shame the RC logos will miss the ride. Edit: and 18 THM! How could I forget lol.

I'm new to the baseball side of cards but I just don't get the whole excitement over the RC designation. If a player has tons of cards in 2018 and 2019, it just seems stupid to me that people would prefer the cards from or 2020 because the card company put an arbitrary RC logo on them.

Because Minor League cards are not all that popular

The "tons" you mention are all either minor league cards or Inserts in Major League Sets

Sadly, baseball is ass-backwards when it comes to MLB RCs. Players must appear in the Major Leagues before they are allowed to have a RC

Default Yordan Alvarez

As much as I agree with the gripes:
- yes he absolutely Should have RCs in this , his rookie year.
- yes, cards from his actual rookie year should, in theory be more valuable than his cards from his 2nd year

Now that that’s outta the way, do we actually believe that if he comes out hot next year the market will be clamoring for his 2nd year prospect cards(2019)over his RC logo cards (2020)?
When I returned to baseball cards in May 2017 one of the first things I noted was the absolute market acceptance of the RC logo and its importance currently.

Onepocket, do you put any "backing" into Lebron St. Vincent releases?

It's kinda ridiculous Topps didn't have him in Update or HHN. That said, his 2020 RC's will become "The" cards. Everything before (except for his first BC Auto) will take a back seat, regardless of what year is techincally his rookie year.

It is in the eyes of baseball collectors.

Non-1st prospect stuff plummets when the RCs start to come out. For every single player. Yordan will be no different. Unload before Series 1 comes out.

So 2019 Bowman Chrome Prospect cards will decrease when 2020 comes out?
Seems stupid but you guys know more than me. I have tons of the refractors - maybe I'll just keep one of each and sell the rest.

Yes, 100%. Look at all the Judge cards that came out between his 2013 BC Auto and his 2017 RC's. 2017 RC's are more desired than any of the 2014, 2015 stuff.

Onep, MLB is a strange bird indeed

back in 2006 Topps could have done the right thing, but it would have cost them money.
they could have abandoned Bowman Chrome Prospect Auto Inserts, and now, in 2019 there would be little confusion
