I'm not the confrontational type myself, but I think when people are always posting in threads about how they would "pay someone a visit" it is all talk. I'm guessing very few people will actually say something to the guy in person.

P.S. I can't believe I just read through this whole thread

This reminds me of the time, I think last year, when Wisconsin-dani was at the National (I think it was that). Everyone said they were going to confront him about it, but I don't think anyone did

There are plenty of other guys out there who run group subs, I know smackvay is one and he's a cool cat based on rep, and I'm recommend guys like them first since they've done the group sub thing before. But if none of them work for you I'd also like to suggest myself as a guy, I think I'm a natural little target for the job if people will have me for it.

As for the confronting him, I'm going to the National tomorrow, but I too am a very non confrontational person. So I won't even act like I'll do something, cause I know I want. Unless I showed up drunk...

It doesn't have to be a confrontational situation. Just ask him what the nonsense is all about. If I was there, I would ask him.

Anyone who might be leaning towards a more lenient view on the Beckett issue in all of this needs to focus on the fact that the card was tampered with.

Beckett may well say that they do not authenticate autographs, but they also clearly state that cards with "evidence of counterfeiting, tampering, or restoration" will not be slabbed.

If someone had drawn a cartoon horse in red crayon on the card would Beckett have slabbed it?

I suspect (and hope) they would not, and obviously tampering would be the reason given.

So, in this case, because the tampering was not so obvious (to them!) then they are excused from providing a 'please explain'? I think not.

I believe the collecting community does deserve an explanation from Beckett. If that explanation is 'we do our best but are human and make mistakes' then so be it. That will be better than silence, or denying that a mistake has been made.

As a user of Beckett's grading service I await their response with both interest and trepidation.
