New fan. I honestly don’t think we watched a single NBA game this year in my house, but did have the WNBA on just about every night. That was all driven by CC. My brothers went to Iowa and watched every single Hawkeyes game and we’ve followed her to the league. We’ve built a fun collection of her cards!

Also new fan. Have watched NBA basketball with my kids for years (myself for decades) and watched Caitlin since college, mostly with my 13 year old daughter (who also plays basketball)

I’ve always kept up on who’s who in the WNBA from afar as im just a big basketball fan in general but Caitlin def made us tune in much more heavily - it is what it is.

I haven’t even bought any of her cards yet. I’m just speaking on watching her play and following her into the WNBA. Everybody’s path to.. anything, will vary. I don’t see an issue if you’ve been a decade supporter of the league or barely started watching in 2024.

It was easy to see Diana Taurasi would be great in the WNBA but I never really got into the hobby side of things with her. I think I might own a couple autos of a few players. Fast forward to today and I'm pretty sure I'm just not happy with how she came across with CC. It's entirely opposite of what my expectations were of a great player. I really hoped she would've been a proponent of CC being on the Olympic team.

WNBA Finals move from 5 games to 7 games. Should be interesting to see how the Fever improve their bench.

I'm happy for you that it's something you can bond with your daughter over, and I know you a real one when it comes to being an actual fan of the game.

I posed that question to the people who have just seen it as an "investment opportunity" and jacked up the prices of cards for the real fans. I am in several WNBA groups, mostly with a focus on cards, and we're all in awe of how much things like the Draft Night card go for, and how basically none of the people that traditionally collect WNBA cards have even touched that thing, or any of the crazy expensive "blue viper / purple flamingo" instant cards.

It's like there are two separate worlds when it comes to the card part of this new interest / hype in WNBA, with some degree of overlap but will likely be forced to interact with each other once the 2024 products come out

yea, its going to be interesting for cards going forward...

- New people that are all about Caitlin
- Old people that are mad about Caitlin

i could see where the new people simply will not care about the history of the WNBA or its players when it comes to cards. MAYBE a handful of pre-Catlin players will see some interest.

and i most certainly can see the "old heads" of WNBA cardland being upset about that

I'm a fan more than an investor, but I wouldn't complain if these cards end up being worth something.

I grew up watching Michael Jordan on TV as a kid. I collected for a few years during that period, but eventually quit. I followed the NBA off and on since then and liked watching Steph and LeBron, but not enough to get back into collecting. I've followed the NFL pretty closely since then too, but never collected any football cards.

I watched a lot of Caitlin's games over the last two years and this summer I had the idea it might be fun to start collecting again, and pretty much exclusively her cards at this point (my wallet probably regrets that).

I think she's bringing in new collectors (including kids & families) and people who've been out a very long time and that's resulted in "new" money being spent on her cards. You combine this with traditional collectors and speculative investors, and you have a formula for very high demand and crazy prices.

I'm looking forward to the new sets coming out. What's currently on Ebay feels a little stale at this point.

I feel bad for people who've collected WNBA in prior years for reasonable prices. It's unfortunate that things are probably going to be crazy this year.

It’ll be crazy for wax for sure but singles will still be reasonable for almost every player. My kids and I collect pretty much everyone but they definitely love Caitlin as well.

There will be PLENTY of singles to go around. Panini is going to milk every last dollar out of her being in sets.

This year's Finals was pretty exciting. I wonder how the ratings did vs. NFL and MLB playoffs last night.

Will be interesting to see what kind of ratings a Finals with Caitlin gets.

They might have to try showing the games on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Fridays. Not sure how they'd fare against NFL, World Series, NBA, and college football.

I see NY won the WNBA, I looked at the box score and saw the name S. Ionescu...she was supposed to be a big deal.
I remember guys here showing off cards of hers.
Her team won and she scored 5 points, shooting 1-19 from the field.

Idk it was pretty cringy honestly. The shooting was woeful, turnovers all over the place. It felt like watching 5 yr olds shoot at a 9 foot hoop at a rec game. When one goes in everyone get so excited

I meant exciting as in "dramatic." I watched the last half of the 4th quarter and OT. Probably the most WNBA I've seen in one sitting. Some of their moves around the hoop were good (esp by Collier) and they had decent dribble drive action, but I was disappointed by the shooting.

From what I was told, the women's game in general features better fundamentals than the men's game. I did not find this to be the case at all.

It was Game 5 of a tough series, both teams were off in general on the offensive side. It was an ugly win, but a win that I’ll gladly take. Energy was off the charts last night, was happy to experience it in person.

To the person chirping about Sab, she was ice cold but hit a big three when it mattered and contributed in other areas with 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Not to mention coming in clutch to win Game 3 for us. Not her best series by any means, but we wouldn’t have even gotten to Game 5 if it wasn’t for her.

I will say the biggest thing that needs improvement in the league overall is the quality of officiating. It’s been amateur hour all season long with these refs.

NY shot 30% from the floor and 8% from 3.

Minnesota shot a scorching 37% from the floor and 16% from 3.

Add in 28 turnovers and 38 fouls for good measure. That's not really my definition of exciting... and I actually tried to watch the game I just couldn't do it. It was horrible basketball

every Finals game 7 (or 5 in this case) is a rockfight.

2016 CLE vs GSW: 93-89, 40% FG vs 39% FG. LeBron 9-24, Curry 6-19
2013 MIA vs SAS: 95-88, 44% FG vs 38% FG. MIA win despite 0 points from Bosh & Miller on 0-10
2010 LAL vs BOS: 89-79, 33% FG vs 41% FG. Kobe and his infamous 6-24 won
2005 SAS vs DET: 81-74, 43% FG vs 42% FG. SAS win despite Duncan 10-27 and Parker 3-11
1994 HOU vs NYK: 90-84, 47% FG vs 40% FG. HOU win despite 10-25 from Hakeem, Starks 2-18 in the loss
1988 LAL vs DET: 108-105, 56% FG vs 46% FG. This one has to feel awkward for the "I miss the Bad Boys days when real men played real defense" folks.
1984 BOS vs LAL: 40% FG vs 49% FG. BOS win despite Bird 6-18 Parish 4-16

Given all that context, yes it was a rough watch, especially the first 1.5 quarters. But trying to use it as some excuse to call women's basketball unwatchable feels disingenuous and corny, albeit expected. From a drama standpoint, I felt like the Finals were great entertainment. 2 games went to OT, 2 more were within one possession. They allowed so much physicality it felt like a genuine surprise anytime they actually did call a foul. Caitlin will get her shot, I do think she's a generational talent but the Fever need some serious talent upgrades, especially if Mitchell leaves in free agency.

I haven't watched much WNBA hoops - ever. But last night I decided to watch the end of the 4th/OT instead of G6 of the NLCS and SNF.

Making shots and scoring a ton is fun, but to me, sometimes it's also exciting to watch when it's for all the marbles.

It was dramatic.

Kinda like watching some events in the Olympics. Every 4 years, I like watching swimming, gymnastics, track and fields, etc...but the rest of the time? Pass.
