I think the premise of P70 is to pick a year and do whatever you want with it so he's not technically disregarding the premise.
Sounds lame. So we can just pencil in the same EXACT design for all his cards? Dude needs to put work in.

Nah, I understand each artist has their own style. Not questioning that. If Skee is gonna have all his players with teeth, cool. But it seems like Mimsbandz is completely mailing it in with copy pasta.

one of the great things about p70 and collecting in general is that you should really only buy what you like, and ignore the other stuff.

not saying you/we can't gripe or complain about lack of effort, just that there is plenty of subpar product in p70, in baseball cards in general, and in life.
the artists are going to do what they do, no amount of complaining will change that.
well, aside from the reactive and subtle trolling they may incorporate into their cards..

Pardee but yeah what I mean is you're going to get attached to an artist and then I guarantee one card is just going to truly upset you and you'll have to buy it since you're going to for the artist set. Imagine Pardee doing the last card without teeth or the wrapper card upsetting you or doing a 1956 topps in portrait instead of landscape. It's bound to happen.

I 100% support the Don C Jerry Manuel card. I'd be all over it if I collected Don C (which I don't), even if it brought back memories of the 2008 Mets collapse.

The best cards in the set are memorable left-of-center cards that tell a story and have a meaningful connection to the artists' other work: Pardee, Ermsy Rollie Fingers, POSE's cut-ups, Distortedd's Dominican food playfulness, Fucci raising existential questions over Dick Allen juggling, even Jerry Manuel.

Some of that stuff's going to have lower PRs and trigger/confuse most people, though.

Pardee, not skee. Sorry. I understand now and thank you. I don't have the capital to just buy every 3-card set. Im gonna catch up to the present with current lowest print runs (on ebay) and then order the least famous/desired players (estimated low print runs) moving forward from Topps. So of the three currently - Jerry Manuel.

For somebody with modest capital, and a mindset that this will take multiple years, does this plan sound decent?

If you're short on capital AND you're okay with not getting your cards in hand until several months after they are released you can buy singles off of the wheeler collection. Dude is legit but you will wait a very very long time to get your cards ... you can also try the presellers on ebay but if you pick a good one you still end up waiting and if you pick a bad one they just cancel your order if the card goes up in value.

Your plan sounds great, but I would never think of these cards as an "investment" so buy what you like and only what you like because you have to prepare for being stuck with worthless cards.

No! I think a better approach would be to either
1) Select 1 (or more) artists that you like and collect their cards. This is an artist-driven set, and the 2-3 cards of each artist that have been released should be enough to give you a flavor of what you like
2) Select a few artists and a few players that you collect, and get the cards of those players by those artists

Low PR-chasing is going to lead you with a bunch of cards that you don't like. Get the stuff that you like first, and figure out the rest over the next 40 years.

Ty Cobb? Honus Wagner? Cy Young? Walter Johnson? Or did you mean of the years that Topps existed?

I meant since Topps existed. Not sure if those guys are even allowed anyway since it seems like there are quite a few off limits. Bonds and Bo for now are not allowed either. And I'm sure there are more.

There have been a million pitchers and pre-war players.

For post-war position players, FRANK ROBINSON. Then maybe Joe D and Joe Morgan.

Eddie Murray is probably in the top 10!

Frank Robinson is definitely number one in my book. Not just for his playing career, but his historical significance as a manager.

Forget best player, someone just make me a 90s ESPN card with HR, Joe Morgan and Orel as the three little heads like the 72s or whatever.

I'm biased towards the Orioles, but the Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson, Eddie Murray trio is a pretty impressive one that has been ignored so far

No, I'm not a flipper. I'm 33yo and have been collecting since I was 5. I started focusing on basketball around 2008. I have done very, very well financially with basketball. But, basketball is insane right now. And I genuinely miss COLLECTING. Don't get me wrong. I love to flip and basketball is a sport I'm not only good at scouting, but it's a card market I know like the back of my hand. I'm not sure I will ever care for football cards even though I know they are hot too. But baseball cards were my first love. I have 10k cards of Topps from '65 to about '84 so a lot of these cards in Project 70 are inspired by cards I actually thumbed through ALOT as a kid. (1975 Topps is by far my favorite set.) The only baseball card I bought in the past 20 years was a 2017 Jo Adell Bowman Chrome Gold /50 PSA 10. I've had that for a couple years now so we'll see how he does. But I wanna do this set to kinda commemorate my love for this hobby. I think these displayed in my mancave would be pretty sick and would communicate to guests what the hobby means to me.

P2020 wasn't my choice because I just don't see the fun in 400 versions of the same 20 cards. But this set will be gigantic, visually appealing and it will include all kinds of players young and long gone.

Has Topps already used "Weaver's Weapons" for a Robinsons + Boog combo card?

So jacked for the Mets game last night so that I get Keith and Ron back in my life. I haven't checked, but I hope PSA 10 1984 Donruss Rated Rookie Ron Darlings are going for 3 figures. [Because he is El Hombre and deserves every penny]

I'd love a "Killer B's" Bagwell + Biggio card now that duals are a thing.
