Agree 100% 😀 My son loved the case and kept asking when I will play. Probably play tomorrow. Did you play yet?

Few observations. Despite Ohtani's strong spring and expectations for MVP favorite, his prices are pretty flat - maybe even slightly down compared to lockout period. Those who sold in hotter times with money on the sideline are in good position to do some scoops (looking at a few of you in the thread).

There are also random second year cards that are fetching material prices. I feel there are many people that desire to enter the Ohtani market but can't handle the big increase to rare 2018 stuff. I think this type of stuff catches up on the front end (as long as Ohtani performs). I expect some jumps in 2018 rare this season.

I think there are also some external factors driving the flatness of price, but when nba/March madness ends, people will turn their eyes back to baseball. At that time, if Ohtani is still doing Ohtani things, we will all be doing a happy dance. There are only so many hobby dollars and the biggest headliner gets 80% of the pot. Look at poor Vlad Jr. from last season, as excellent as he was. And let's face it - it's always more fun watching a 5-tool 6'4 handsome two way superstar rather than a rotund very good hitter.

Picked up a nice RC Auto I'll post when I get it.

I'm new to Ohtani collecting, but wanted to share a few pick-ups. Sho Time starts in a few more days!

To bring up a discussion, what's up with the variances in his autograph format over the past few years? I'm not an expert in this at all but this appears to be his new format of signature and isn't like anything he's done in the past. Was just curious.

It was all Shohei being nice, coming from a great country and culture, he was happy to be here and sign cards. Topps broke him

TrueBlue has a great response in this thread about Sho’s auto. It would be worth a search!

It’s come a long way - not good way for sure.

Great cards^!

Nice ones! I've had my eye on the nickname Heritage. There's been some discussion of the signature changes...I've seen 3 different versions just in the past year. I assumed he was simplifying it due to being asked to sign more products, but then it seemed like he changed it to something even more elaborate. Maybe someone told him to step it up.

Truncated response is that you should buy RC year Bowman (first release), Topps Chrome (not update), Finest, and Heritage (Low) autos if you want the "excited to sign and delight fans" penmanship

He most definitely doesn't put much effort into his autographs these days. There is a real drop off of quality after 2020.

His contract with Fanatics probably messed up the way he signs his autographs - however, I've seen newer Fanatics signed items with the newer, shortened autograph, where that is just how it looks now regardless.

Agreed, his stuff has been pretty flat and even down. I had a few cards looking to offload and they have seemed to go down in price from a few months ago. I think for a lot of players it is a wait and see once the season starts.

Assuming Ohtani has a year similar to last year....anyone care to speculate how they see the his card market reacting? If he has another MVP(like) year, I could see his low and mid end cards doubling and his his high end cards becoming astronomical. Thoughts?

Hard to say with low/mid end as there's still several cards that need slabbed.

But high end, I've always said the ceiling is Trout. High end color BCs for blue/gold/orange should get closer to Mike. Not reach Mike, but there shouldn't be that much of a price discrepancy IMO if Shohei again is an MVP candidate, and dare I say, wins it.

Been working on some more Stadium Club projects and thought I'd share some scans.

It's my favorite Ohtani image. As a photographer myself, it's a fantastic image with really nice bokeh that adds to the refractor effect.

I just got up charged $720 by PSA for an Ohtani card. Good grief. There's a strong net casted for Ohtani now it seems.

It is behind a paywall....but the article is just based on hitting only.

Ohtani is ranked in the Top 5 (implied Top 3)
