Tough to come back from a broken jaw. Don't get caught holding!

This is perfect really. By the time his Upper Deck "The Cup" Rookie comes out, he'll be 23 years old and well established!

Foligno is now on the IR with a fractured finger after fighting Smith. So we have a completely clean hit that sent two Blackhawks to the IR. There's really no reason Smith should have to fight anyone other than they act like Bedard is completely off limits.

Compare their reaction to the Ducks when Carlsson was injured after Weegar fell on his knee. Nothing dirty and they didn't chase Calgary players around afterward trying to fight or "make them pay". It's a contact sport.

Actually makes the point about durability concerns as that type of play happens every night in the league. Bedard should be making zone entries for the next decade and will have to learn to protect himself. Smith barely touched him...wait until someone actually takes a run at him.

Are they going to try and fight people every time he takes a clean hit? For his entire career? Good luck with that strategy.

This is their coach:

Quote:
“I don’t know if it was dirty,” Richardson said. “I think Connor was reaching for a puck and didn’t see him. … I don’t think he stepped up on him. I just think he kind of stopped and Connor ran headfirst right into him. I don’t think it was intent to hit, I think he was just playing hard on the blue line and trying to keep the puck out on the penalty kill.”

Broken jaw will ruin his hand-eye coordination, reaction time, and skating ability. Sell sell sell!

This is their coach:
Whether the hit was clean or not, I think it's expected that teammates protect each other, especially their star player(s).

Look at all the times pitchers retaliate by plunking opponents after their guy gets hit, whether the original offending pitcher was head hunting or not.

That's usually accomplished by legally checking or hitting a member of the opposing team. Not demanding someone fight you for a clean hit on your teammate. Hitting is legal in hockey.

yeah - that's right. Fights are always for normal reasons. Logical. Everyone just righting (actual) wrongs.

Bedard’s jaw needed surgery, 6-8 weeks recovery being reported. Enough to put his Calder bid at risk unless nobody else steps up in the meantime.

This is playing out exactly like McDavid. Not sure if anyone else is really stepping it up, Carlsson is always injured as well. Fantilli is kinda meh, Minty is decent, havent checked on Cooley in a while.

Yeah there isn’t exactly a Panarin putting up 76pts to steal it away this time around. Still sucks to lose him for up to two months though. Maybe Chicago doesn’t mind as they’ll surely end up with another high pick. That roster is looking ROUGH with all the injuries. Even calling it an AHL roster would be a stretch.

it's a shame that Woll got hurt because I do believe he could have pulled away and won it.

(saying that as someone that got him at like +2000 for Calder lol)

side note - if they land Celebrini it's absolutely wild how lucky some teams get with lottery picks

Not worried about singular YG prices but that's rough for those who pre-ordered Series 2 at high prices and are locked in. Also sucks for LCS as I guarantee some "investors" will cancel orders and even worse people will argue their pre-order price now as it's not worth it now that "bedard's injured"

Does a broken jaw, treated by top notch medical professionals usually have a 100% ( or near ) recovery rate, without long lasting complications?

It’s kind of wacky now, but the answer directly to this is “they can”

The rule is you now essentially can’t win more than 2x in a rolling 5 year period… so 2 is fine. Started with the 2022 lottery. There’s some nuance (it’s not just for the 1st pick).

Hockey players have been getting their faces broken for over a century without long-term effects. These guys epitomize toughness.
He'll be fine in a couple of months and doing as well as he would otherwise.

A little surprised hes not coming back sooner with a fish bowl protector. I guess Chicago is tanking a bit.
