his defensive boxing is atrocious. he hits hard but constantly has his chin up in the air unprotected. people say he’s chinny, but really he just eats huge shots because he doesn’t protect himself.

Still in shock over the Nunes loss - not sure what happened. She looked like a completely different fighter: no defense, sloppy striking, got gassed, tapped early even though the choke wasn't completely locked in.

Congrats to the champ! (that glove grab though)

I think Peña actually broke her nose standing and the choke was actually across her face/nose so it was more of a pain choke.

Also Nunes has always been a bit of a frontrunner. She’s awesome at being the hammer but doesn’t react well to being the nail.

Nah, I disagree. Rewatch Nunes vs. de Randamie 2.

De Randamie actually staggered Nunes a couple times in the second, which forced Nunes to (smartly) do a level change and take the fight to the ground. It's that adjustment that won her the fight.

She looked like she gave up. Didn't fight back like the Lioness usually would. No longer the dominating force she once was. It's all downhill from here

Are we talking about Jameis?

edit: all jokes aside, I am genuinely interested to see how Nunes looks in her next fight (whenever that may be). In case people forgot, this fight was supposed to take place a few months ago in August, but was delayed because Nunes had to recover from a COVID infection.

I hope Oliviera keeps winning. Found a few rookie cards of his including a green to 88.

Okay and I’ll raise you her fights against Cat Zingano, Alexis Davis, Sarah D’Alelio, and of course last night.

And what about her battles with Valentina? You used an absolute term ("always"), which is false.

As for her being a "frontrunner," she likes to establish her dominance early:

"My mother used to box, and I followed her footsteps into training. She loves fighting. My uncle used to fight Vale Tudo, and my mother even cornered him in some of his fights. She always says, ‘the first strike has to be yours. She can’t touch you before you touch her. You have to intimidate her."

Razor close fights but she was never in any real danger of being finished either. You seem to be really upset about this but the fact remains she’s quit numerous times when faced with adversity. Kind of reminiscent of Mike Tyson.

Wait wut lol - I'm just amped up right now because I'm really, really enjoying watching the Chiefs dismantle the Raiders (35-3 and counting)

Your statement is false, but the following is true: she is the first and only fighter to defend two UFC titles while holding both.

Her legacy has been cemented - sorry if that bothers people, and yes she will be back!

Her legacy is obviously cemented, just weird she got choked with no hooks in and never seemed to make any attempt to get out of it.

It’s false that she’s quit numerous times? Did you ever see someone like Marvin Hagler behave the way she did when faced with adversity?

I'm just as confused - curious to see how she looks next fight.

I'm a fan, but...I don't care that much y'all LOL.

We'll see!

Relax. Nunes is still the GOAT. Again, sorry if this bothers anyone.

Second round speaks for itself, Pena exerted herself further and pretty much did to Nunes as Nunes did to Cyborg.

It happens to everyone eventually. Rousey, McGregor etc - the realisation that you really aren't invincible hurts hard. She's going to be 34 by the time of her next fight in a division filling up with younger, hungrier fighters.

Eh - as someone who has genuinely watched all of her fights, she looked off from the get-go.

I will say her post-fight interview was interesting. She basically said that she "checked out" and wasn't that focused on the fight.

She's rich, a new mom, getting older, just got over COVID...maybe she is ready to hang up the gloves.

Again, we'll see

My jaw literally dropped when Nunes lost. It shocked me. BUT, she also had a weird sense of relief on her face after the loss. Almost like defending two titles since 2018 has just been TOO much.

I noticed that too.

While I was rooting for her to win, I do think this creates an interesting situation at 135. If Nunes had won, it would have been business as usual, and people would still be wondering if anyone could challenge her in either weight class.

Now...there's a bit of intrigue (a large bit actually). I also love a good comeback story

I raised an eyebrow during the 269 countdown show where they said nunes came into camp with a different, calmer, more relaxed attitude than she ever had before. it’s not a far stretch to call that less focused.

Made me think she was satisfied with what she has accomplished and was more focused on family and life outside the ring during this training camp. In some of the scenes she had her wife and kid at the gym while she was training, which was a little odd if it was a regular thing.
