Unfair comparison.

Blaine Gabbert is Alex Smith 2.0.

Bortles is a poor mans Matt Ryan at this point.

He may become equivalent to Matt Ryan but I think that's about his ceiling.

This is just a small sample of recent rookie year QB passing attempt stats.
Carr -599 attempts
Tannehill - 484 attempts
Luck - 627 attempts
Newton - 517 attempts
Dalton - 516 attempts

I'm not sure how 475 is considered "overuse". It looks like normal wear-n-tear to me.
In baseball, pitchers throw couple thousand pitches a year and they are babied so to speak. How is throwing a football 475 times bad for your arm?

You need a good defense. Like someone else said you need good stats and to win games. Siemian is in a perfect situation in Denver to succeed. Cam has a great defense behind him as well as Wilson, the Pats defense is solid etc. Stafford puts up big number, Brees puts up big numbers but they dont win many games. Winston is somewhere's in between atm he's putting up some strong numbers and their defense isn't that bad. It's too early to tell with some of these younger guys.

4000+ yards/35 touchdowns and you're nowhere to be found, not one post in this thread. Bad start, and here you are. Coincidence?

Which thread is that exactly? You seem to think that my opinion had somehow changed, then changed back. Do not get me wrong, Bortles is my fantasy QB because I love the garbage time stats he puts up.

I don't put this 0-3 start on Bortles. When the Jags learn to run the ball, they will be a playoff team. Matt Ryan has always had a solid run game (and offensive line).

Yeldon needs to take his act to one of the 1500 dancing shows on TV, this little prancing around behind the line then picking up 2 yards is getting really old.

Matt Ryan what? Maybe don't use "has always"

Depending on the player, their release can cause all kinds of inflammation in the elbow or with the rotator cuff, either of which leads to no zip on passes.

Also, most QB's throw hundreds of passes weekly and thousands during the year, if their mechanics aren't perfect every pass, the damage accumulates quickly and guys get dead arm.

Pitchers deal with constant inflammation, how well they can deal with it or do body maintenance to reduce it separates the greats from the average or poor.

So throws at camp, practices, and so don't count? Not to mention weights, and everything else that goes along with it.

Thanks for the info. So I guess Bortles needs to work on his mechanics and maybe limit his throwing during practices. That's on him.

I was hoping Carr vs Bortles would be the new Manning vs Brady.

On him? That's a big chunk of their offense (especially with no running game), it's a lack of quality QB Coaches in the league and potentially a problem with their Offensive Philosophy. I'm not in the locker room so I cannot say for sure.

He'll learn, there have been tons of QB's who struggled from early on thanks to being given poor info from the start.

Alright you almost win, but Blaine has a good chance of sticking as a decent backup. Blake, not so much

Did Chapman get out of the Bortles game before this house fire?

A 5-alarm house fire... what a bad preseason for those invested in Bortles.
