All in all, I guesstimate that around 70% of this product has already been cracked.

It’s surprising not more singles can be found readily.

I wouldn’t be surprised if people are just holding onto the ones they have (like I am). They’re beautiful cards and low-numbered so maybe a pretty decent play if you have the right players.

With the prices they fetch compared to other similar cards such as /25 topps chrome parallels of the exact same players, you’d figure most people would be in the market to flip these quickly.

I mean, they go for sometimes around 10x comparable orange refractor parallels!

Hmm that’s not a bad point, I hadn’t thought about the comparison to an orange parallel. I guess they just seem a lot more unique than being just another color parallel, and perhaps their inclusion in such an expensive product matters a lot? I don’t know where the line between ssp vs sssp vs sp blurs…is it 24?

I think the fact that the inserts are from the highest end chrome product certainly helps and the lack of parallels besides the super is what drew me to them. Plus, this is the very first time gilded has ever had a non-paralleled to death insert.

It’s interesting to compare them to the hidden gems - one is serial numbered and the other isn’t. One comes from the highest end product and the other is scattered throughout low end products.

Can a numbered insert truly be considered a sp, ssp, or sssp?

As mentioned before, these GSs may turn out to be surprisingly iffy on condition. I'm guessing there will be a lot more PSA 8s than 10s on these. Bottom corners are a bit jacked on a lot of cards and I have seen a surface defect/bubble on one card that I'm wondering whether it is a one-off or instead a common problem related to the gold specs in the top half of the design.
Grab a Witt “Strokes of Gold” and let that be a solid consolation prize. Those cards look great in-hand.

It took you 15 years to collect cards again?! I suppose it's better late than never. Now that you've reallocated your formula funds to these cards, will your wife have to breastfeed you again?

I’ve been collecting for decades, it took me fifteen years in the interim to actually pick a specific set that I thought worthy of pursuing out of the thousands that have been released.

I fund my collection the old fashioned way, by spending what I earn with my real job.

I don’t mask myself as being a collector and try to justify hoarding infant formula, toilet paper and sealed boxes and flipping them as the only means to fund my hobby, like others here.

Starting to see some movement on prices in this set - not sure if it’s the start of baseball season or more set/player collectors.

Probably a little bit of everything, but mainly I would assume it’s because the limited quantity is slowly being absorbed into PCs.

Less than 0.1% of the collecting public reads these message boards.

I’m trying to acquire, not flip - we all know that’s in your nature.

But don’t prices usually go down after the most impatient collectors pay the most to be the first?

I have limited experience with rare inserts, but in general, I haven’t found that to be the case. The only thing that will bring down the price is poor performance on the field, or infamy off of it. Sometimes after some initial big sales, you’ll see the price come down as more copies get ripped and posted on eBay (see Depths of Darkness), but we know that won’t really be the case here. It’s not like this is a refractor version of a base insert… there’s just 24 of these period.

How have strokes of gold singles been selling - up, stable or softer?

Depends on the player. I would say they’ve slightly softened for most players, except Witt and Chourio who has seen a slight increase. Elly is holding steady. Sellers who are holding out for big money for Jasson and Caminero are having to come down a bit.

Is it considered pumping if I’m not trying to sell/flip?

I may be the only one on these boards trying to complete the set.

If anything, I’m trying to anti-pump it.

100%.

With McDonald's cutting his hours and infant formula prices continuing to rise, he needed to find a new way to generate some funds.

Unfortunately, because of his greed, the rest of the card community are adversely impacted as he's making the hobby more expensive for the rest of us.

What a pumperboi.
