First Buzz: 2024 Score football cards

I haven't spotted a checklist yet, but here's the full list of Rising Stars (see below). No Caleb Williams in this set. It's also not part of the base set, they are numbered 1-50 which repeats in the main veteran set. For example, card #18 in the veteran set is Falcons Michael Vick and in the Rising Stars set #18 is Packers rookie Edgerrin Cooper. I would anticipate these are considered inserts.

Interestingly Panini's own packaging states 49 Rising Stars which Cardboard Connection and Beckett understandably repeated. Yet I count 50. Edit: I can't count.

I think he's going to the CFL and Upper Deck will make a billion semi-fungible tokens depicting him.

No NFL licensed Caleb Williams RCs in 2024? Oooof.

What would be the move: BUC or whatever unlicensed Topps cards they put out?

I am not saying you're wrong, but I don't see how that would be possible. He's a member of the Union and Panini still has a deal with the Union. They don't have to negotiate 1-by-1 like Fanatics does.

Also, and this is a minor thing, but the card texture is annoying to me. Going through a stack of them is grating.

I don't have any knowledge of this situation, but I am willing to make a business related "tin foil hat" conspiracy guess.

Typically - Score sells, even with it being collegiate rookie images and sometimes no professional team listed, because it is the first product released. Then Prestige sells because they add a little bit of something else that score didn't have. Then, we get Elite which may add something else. Then, we start getting good releases that have everything and, typically, we stop caring about Score, Prestige and Elite. Maybe with the production delays this year, they have all the professional team information on the Score RC's (which I 100% believe since I opened 5 boxes of Score Halloween cards last night) so they held Caleb out to give people a reason to buy Prestige and/or Elite.

Just a guess.


Unrelated to my guess above - The Score Halloween cards feel super thin. Definitely a different feeling card stock from typical Score. I hope that the regular Score release isn't the same as the Halloween.

Finally saw some of the halloween bundles so grabbed one for giggle knowing I probably just burned $22 after.

The cards sure are super thin, almost like a sticker feel to them.

I do think it's odd Caleb isn't in the set though. I also feel like these are really only worth it if you can somehow pull a numbered parallel.

Especially considering Marvin Harrison Jr is in the set, but not Caleb. Seems weird.

Def a Miss if you dont pull a #d (which are super Rare) but compared to say a Blaster of Contenders for more money, Its 120 cards vs 40 cards. And odds are the Relic/Auto from Contenders isnt worth the difference you paid on the Contenders Blaster vs the Score Pack. You get some potential Team PC for collectors and early "Rookies" of more of the top guys. Seems like a decent break for fun.

If you aren't a set collector, def not a product Id recommend doing qty of, but Im enjoying trying to piece together an Orange and Green set. But I also love the Holiday stuff, probably 100-200 "Christmas/Holiday" Relics in my collection.

Not sure if I missed someone posting this or not. But Score Halloween was printed in China. So they didnt have to wait for their normal US printer, that Fanatics is playing games with.

It looks like the same place they typically have stickers printed at, for their sticker books. Which explains why these came out first. And why the card stock is so thin and cheap

They are pimping the 2nd Caleb card on Instant right now. So something is up for sure with this set. Since Panini clearly has the OK to use him on cards.

My tin foil is all nfl are delayed because of mhj . NFL told fanatics they could not sell any mhj jerseys because he did not sign the nflpa. He zero instant cards and all 2024 sets say tba.

Also, I can not stop laughing how Johnny Manziel has a card in this set. Why the eff does Manziel have a vet card in this? It's hilariously stupid to me.

I'm guessing the Halloween Score and regular Score base sets will be roughly the same checklist. With that, I'd guess there's going to be veteran stickers in the regular Score set and Panini may have a backlog of Manziel stickers they are looking to dump. Just a guess, no concrete evidence.

This was such a crazy money-maker....everyone slept on this because the cards are "cheap" and it was literally cheap to buy. I opened 4 of the 40 pack bundles and 2 of the 75 pack bundles....I didn't pull a single black #/99.

$155 cost (buying the 40 packs from walmart.com and the 75 packs right from Sam's Club)

I have sold $645 AFTER FEES just selling orange/green lots of the same player and then team lots. I'm not saying it would be as profitable now because they have been out a couple weeks, but they definitely sold well. People have been really wanting to put the team sets together.

Oh, and before anyone jumps at me saying these were only supposed to be for the kids, I opened all of these with my 2 boys. They helped me sort, kept the ones they wanted, and I'm giving any extras I end up with to my 4th grade students. So....I am thinking of the kids too.

Cards haven't been for kids, since they raised the price from a quarter and stopped inserting a stick of gum.

Even if you bought these to give away, and only paid Walmart retail. 99% of kids would still rather have the 50 cents in cash you spent, than a pack of 3 cards. Toss 2 quarters in their bag on Halloween, and save a trip to the store.

Picked up a pack of these at Walmart last night. It was a fun rip. Took a while to open all the packs, which was cool because usually for double the amount I rip right through an opening in 5 minutes. No trick or treat/black cards here. I do see those parallels selling well on ebay. I was going to list player lots on ebay. Probably won't recoup the amount you did, but a dollar here and there and the rip will be free.

All Score veteran and rookie autos have been sticker autos for the past few years.
