For those building sets...once you've completed the set, do you look to upgrade, or what's done is done?

I've got a mental list of a few I'd like to improve, and this was one I just picked up.

(old vg-ex) vs. (new ex-mt)

New on top...old one had some major stains

Other additions this month:

I'm not quite finished my 52 Topps set yet (3 to go) but I have been, occasionally, grabbing the odd upgrade here and there while patiently awaiting for those 3 to pop. (affordable copies)

Those are great pickups. Does the Aaron have a pinhole or paper loss? Really good eye appeal for both the Aaron and the Williams

Picked this one up at a local shop for $75. The card was in such a nice shape that the price was super good. Super sharp corners. Clean edges, surface. Pretty good registration. A hair off center L/R I thought it had a good chance for an 8. Just got it back. Pretty happy with the grade. Back is very clean as well.

That's a great price for that card, imo.
I purchased a lesser graded one about 4 yrs ago as I really like the card with Hank and Mathews on it.

I picked it up at Burbank Sports Cards. When I saw it, I could not believe it was that cheap. I did wonder if it, possibly, could have been trimmed, because the corners are really sharp....but came back as 8.5

Gotta love when that happens!
When I purchased mine for what I did, I basically paid for what it would have cost for me to get it graded so it was a no brainer, imo.

I haven't been buying much, but have been selling. Once I get up to $1000 or more, I want to make a decent purchase. Maybe a Banks rookie. Here is my only purchase in awhile for "vintage." Was looking to buy a cheap one and get it graded for my PC, but I got one off of eBay for $9.18 all in.

Default Hall of fame Rookies

Just some HOF rookies. Have about 230 HOFers and having a blast chasing them down. Doubt I will ever complete them all but the thrill is in the chase.

Two of my favorite underrated dudes.

You had Darth Vader, one true big time badass. Now you have the Emperor, an even bigger badass ! The Emperor really made the last Rey/Kylo Ren Star wars awesome. I am so glad the younger "now" generation got to see the Emperor - splendid character!

And here is a great action shot card of Steve Carlton, the greatest lefty of my lifetime.

Picked these up for my PC...Wynn was raw....Fox was GAI that I cracked out (hopefully it's not trimmed ). Will probably sub to CSG. Hopefully they'll get a 7 or better.

Love the Wynn!

Any reason for cracking it out and not just submitting to CSG in the GAI holder?

I have been looking to pick this up for my Killebrew collection for some time. Finally found one I like. I don't mind off center, by the way.

I did not realize that CSG accepted GAI. I thought that they only took PSA, SGC, Beckett.

It's ok. I was pretty careful Got the card for a really good price. Will complete by Nellie run.

These are from a PSA order that came back 3 weeks ago as part of their “July” special. The James Bond was from a set that my uncle had loose in a cigar box - it was the best card in there by far. Just wish he was more into sports cards during that era…….

I love that the 1971 Super set has some really cool shots of the players (Wille Mays, in particular). Ah, If only these cards weren’t so “Super” . Everyone keep up the good work in this topic!

Love all the classic Topps.

Here's some affordable pre-war. Bender is an E102, a HOF pitcher who maybe shouldn't be a HOFer but was a fine hurler for Connie Mack's first dynasty. He was at his peak when this set was issued, presumably with a candy product.

The Donlin is a T213-2 Coupon, the only card in the set that has a stat line caption (and a factually incorrect one too, whether counting any year or any full year Donlin played it doesn't come out to 7 seasons at .300). Donlin batted .333 for his career and didn't play many games, frequently in trouble and preferring the theater and sinning to playing ball. A superstar name, who was one of the 'could have been's' of baseball history.

not in great condition, but that's okay. got it for about half of what they normally go for.

My favorite set of all time, I have three in really good shape and about 170 extras (two Grahams).

It's def one of the top cards in the set!

I am constantly upgrading. I have three sets of 55 All-American and lots of extras. I try to use mostly any profits from cards to upgrade as I go. I will upgrade one of the three sets and kick the lower one to my extras, and most of the time those are gradable.
