Between this and the $600 1099's, card shows in 2022 are about to blow the F up.

I think a lot of you guys are missing the point. Ebay isn't doing this to help determine fakes, it is 100% to lower the amount of scamming on their platform. I'm sure they are getting super tired of all of the 'item not as described' returns and this is their way of dealing with it. Will it suck for buyers because they have to wait an extra week or 2 to get their card? Absolutely. However, I do think it will help with the major issue most people had with selling on Ebay which was getting scammed and Ebay almost always choosing to side with the buyer.

The biggest question with this service, is what is it going to cost going forward once the 'trial/free' period is over and who is going to pay for it?

Legend has it that they're still grading cards from the beginning of the pandemic.

For those that do not know. CGC does not slab all Pokemon cards. How can they authentic cards that they cannot even slab? Now add sports cards and vintage cards. There is going to be alot of Logan Paul situations. BBCE type authentication confidence being wrong. What then ?

The more important question in all of this is who really cares what CSG says? These guys are new to the card scene and haven't proven themselves enough to be taking on this type of responsibility.

I guess you would rather have PSA in charge of this project? Or maybe Beckett? Sure.

It takes eight years to get your PSA PhD to locate scuffs, corner wear, and measure centering. They’re working on it.

So, asking for a company with a proven track record is asking for to much?
Gotcha...

My understanding is that eBay is backing it. So if CSG is wrong and it is inauthentic, you'd get your money back. At least that's what I think would happen. I did look at the FAQs and nothing specifically addressed this. Anybody else see anything on this? It would kind of defeat the purpose of the "Authenticity Guarantee" otherwise.

Also interested to know what eBay would do to the Seller if CSG found it authentic and the Buyer later discovered it as inauthentic. It seems to me that eBay/CSG should eat the cost.

PSA has millions and millions of cards in their backlog. I hear theres still cards they received in 2020 waiting for grading.

They kind of have their hands full.

BGS is a trainwreck, youve said so yourself.

How did this become a PSA and BGS debate?
When did I say I want to see PSA or BGS involved?
CSG has no proven track record in the sports card industry, so how are they qualified to take this task on? CSG also has a huge backlog if you're not aware.

All items are final sale after authentication unless the seller accepts return. It is not known what would happen if you receive an item that is fake, but CSG mistakenly authenticated. All of the TPGs make mistakes. It will happen. It is not clear if you have any recourse as a buyer.

Fake card!

They could save everyone the trouble and cancel that listing.

I agree. When things don't work out with CSG maybe eBay can reach out to HGA for this service after all they've been around a year, too.

Seems crazy to not have any recourse as a buyer. What kind of "Authenticity Guarantee" is that then? Nothing against CSG, but I agree they will make mistakes. Especially if they are trying to move quickly and keep costs down (whether its eBay paying or the buyer).
