Based on my opinion, the reason why there are much less 2003 lebron TC gold refractor cards placed for auctions than the exquisite rpa isn't because collectors aren't willing to sell the card, but because the owners weren't motivated to sell the cards. So far, only one recent sales of a bgs 9.5 occurred in the marketplace for $312k, the other one is based on hearsay. I think if one of those cards ended up selling in a marketplace for a huge sum, like the exquisite rpa, more copies would start to show up in various marketplaces and auction houses.

Have you thought about selling yours to this party?

He wanted to buy mine but I am not interested in selling. He asked me if I could help him find one. There are few who are looking for one and have contacted me and he is one of them.

2012-13 Prizm Gold /10 vs. 2003-04 TC Gold /50, even with more copies, the latter wins all the time!

Thanks. Nice to see price confirmation of the video you posted earlier. Interesting times indeed

Still goes back to my earlier point. Nobody seems interested in selling their TC Gold (relative to the Equisite RPA /99's). Smaller print run might have something to do with it. But I imagine this will close the gap in value. Everyone keeps saying the super rich can obtain one - but that's not true if nobody is selling. In the end, it's Supply vs. Demand

I agree. Buying a "Rookie Card" at a premium has stood the test of time. I don't know what values will look like of a 10th year card, regardless of asthetics or serial number, in the long-term. It's a nice looking card, but nobody can convince me it's worth 500k+. There are always exceptions (e.g. PMG), but the 12-13 Prizm Gold doesn't hold a candle to those cards looks-wise. Just my opinion.

If a 10th year Prizm Gold /10 is worth 500k+, how is a 1/1 card (i.e. 10 times rarer) featuring a game worn patch and auto from both LBJ and MJ, with superior asthetics to boot, "only" worth 312k? So confusing. Again, just my opinion

You should sell him yours and put the funds toward getting another Exquisite RPA. Seriously.

He already has an exquisite RPA. I went after the TC gold first before the exquisite RPA and am glad I did. I prefer the rarity of TC Gold over the exquisite RPA even though the latter is more expensive in similar grades.

While I agree I'd rather have the auto and patch of an Exquisite, the TC Gold's are just proving to be harder to find atm. Only time will tell if this trend continues

I personally know two people who own an exquisite RPA and are looking for a TC Gold Refractor. Better to have both imo

Haha, agreed! I’m still of the opinion that his 2003 UD Ultimate vertical /250 is his best looking RC, but I guess the 250 copies thing keeps it from entering this discussion

What is your take on the 11-12, 13-14 PMGs? Are those test of time worthy, even overcoming college uni?

Do you have the whale of all LeBron grails… the Exq gold /23?

Nope. Not interested in chasing one at current prices. I am happy with what I have right now.

I actually like the photos on both - they are good action shots. However, the lack of a pro unfiorm is a deal-breaker for me personally. It also feels like a re-issue, with the OG being the 1997 set. I generally try and stay away from cards that attempt copycat the allure and iconic status of the original - it's never the same IMO.

I understand where you’re coming from. I’m torn… I mean, the prices are high on the grail cards I want, but then I think if I don’t bite the bullet now, it will only be more expensive later.

I think there is some upside on the fleer retro LeBron cards. While I don’t think they will ever sniff the original Jordan/Kobe levels (partly due to being a reissue and the high school uni), I think there will sympathy price increase as people want similar type inserts of LeBron. PMG, Noyz Boyz, Scoring Kings, etc should be in play.

Personally, there is something about the red PMG, even the reissue. Like it better than the stained glass and virtually all contemporary inserts.

Default My predictions

Thanks to those who gave constructive input.

I will stick my neck out there, and do (hopefully it ages well) my predictions/guesses, as part of why I originally started this thread (and wanted to abandon the other one; as that didn't age well, since the PSA 10 blew well past $1million).

2003 Topps Chrome Gold Refractor /50, Lebron James:

Next public auction, if within the next calendar year:
BGS 9.5 (min gem): $1.88 million
BGS 9.5 (true gem): $2.1 million
PSA 10: $3.8 million

These are big "ifs", as who knows when or if we will see it come to public auction at all...

My belief is that, since pcptrade is very well connected: he may get $2.5million for his BGS 9.5 true gem.

I sold this years ago but just wanted to leave a picture so everyone can see the Exquisite. I think it is hands down a better looking card.

I hope whoever owns it enjoys it as much as I did. It was the first grade 9.5

Is your prediction based on the assumption that a TC Gold Refractor BGS 9.5 should be worth the same as an Exquisite RPA/99 BGS 9?
