Tough to launder money when he’s not going to get any

Is there a way he could actually pocket the money from eBay on this? I assume he has to attach a credit card to eBay account. But maybe he cancels the card or something after the auction ends? Just interested in what his end game could be.

So then explain it to me like I'm 5.

you think this guy has multiple fake ebay accounts and is going to just buy his own stuff and "wash" the money that way? If that was the case why on earth would he make these auctions so that any random person can bid? Sounds like the worst ML plan to me

He's not going to get a dime from this.

Ebay MP holds your payout for some amount of time anyways and just guessing but it's probably longer for higher dollar amounts. Then it gets deposited right into a bank.

So I mean, in theory he could have all auctions end on the same day, ship out the pictures and hope that the money gets deposited into his account before the people start the refund process and withdraw the money and close the account?

Based on these listings tho he hasn't thought that far ahead and he's just not very smart.

I don’t want to get into great details but I’ve had some very shady associates and have been around discussions about such activities. Ill gotten money used to purchase legit products or services. The guy providing said services or goods can then claim the money and legitimize it. Both parties are in on it. eBay would seem like a great place to do that.

I open a sports card “business”. You create two buying accounts and you bid up my piece of paper. Pay me for the paper and my business claims it as income. We could then actually use the money legitimately. Obviously there would be more to it but I think you get my drift. Also imagine how many cash deals someone could do at the national or another show. You could easily take a loss on a deal and not worry about it

I won’t pretend to be some criminal mastermind but I’ve thought for a while cards would make sense to do this kinda stuff.

That's fine but for 1 it's not that simple. Makes no sense to do it as an auction for some of the hottest most desirable cards because there's a chance someone else wins the auction and if you were actually laundering money why would you want thousands of eyes on it? Furthermore why wouldn't you just have a real picture of a card instead of putting in the description that you're bidding on a picture of a card. The account is likely going to get shut down too.

So either he's the dumbest money launderer of all time (not likely) or just a dumb kid that thinks he can get other idiots to send him money which he ultimately won't see a dime of.

Not everything is Hollywood.

I know it’s about that specific listing but I’m talking cards in general. I know a few others who also have talked about this happening with cards. I just went to look at the listing and you’re correct about this listing

Oh, you're 100% about people laundering in cards. Doing it through ebay is pretty smart actually. Just enough visibility to be legit but not too much to draw suspicion.

All you have to do is load up a bunch of prepaid debit cards with cash, hook them up to a paypal with some fake / stolen info, buy stuff you have listed and voila.
