Monopolies only matter when the provider provides an essential service or good that majority of people cannot live without or impedes on daily life. But when its a product or service thats non essential all the worries go out the window because frankly speaking, you dont need a box of cards to keep living !!

Having said that, this may be in poor taste by having Panini selling its retail product itself. But the hobby has turned into this. Not enough product to feed the demand. I really dont care who sells it and for how much. At the end of the day the choice is yours to go buy retail or not through whatever channels you want. When you buy from Walmart then resell it, is that wrong? When you charge more than MSRP is that wrong?

The fact here is demand exceeds supply, in which case you can charge whatever you want. The best part, the buyer can choose to buy it or not.

I'm not sure if people actually understand how the anti price gouging act works.

Then again...some people may actually view ripping as a medical narcotic, sooo......

Picked up 50 megas. Thanks Opie. Will be bundling them with travel sized Purrell dispensers for a 150% ROI. Who knew Optizmas would last thru spring?

If I don’t find it I. The store for msrp it is not that important. No purchases of packs/boxes until seasons begin again. Will simply hold steady and wait for my PSA stuff to return.

My answer is yes. At least that way I would still have a chance to buy it direct at reasonable price.

I never even saw Optic in my area. Considering this, it was probably never even sent.

Nope. They’re also specifically creating “1/1’s” to sell directly on their site now too. Nothing surprises me any more.

At least Jesse James used a gun and a mask when he robbed people.

Panini's just trying to get a peice of that action. Any smart business sees all that money they are leaving on the table.

Rumor has it that this is an inside job. To make it look good, Panini hired a team nationwide to go out and buy all the Optic and Prizm at MSRP to make it appear scarce. Then when the dust settled, they put it back up for sale on their website at 2 1/2 times the MSRP. We have been fooled all along. Also, those are not pack searchers that you see at Target and Wal-Mart, they are actual Panini employees. To save money, they need to get some of those cheap crap jerseys and autos back for their repacks. Gary V. also fits in here somewhere. Although this is sarcasm, anything is possible!

This is simple. Stop buying new product. Cards are worthless without us. Let Panini sit on a years worth of product and the banks that keep their operations afloat will make sure to correct things for us. Remember, pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered.

This is how you drive the demise of a company whose practices you don’t like.

The product will still be there for you later if you really can’t live without it. Remember the Fleer bankruptcy sale? All we have to do is ‘flatten the curve’ for Panini’s sales.

The NBA will want a new to manufacturer step in and produce more cards once Panini is no more. It’s a revenue stream for the NBA to sell their licensing. Perhaps the NBA will see the error they made and open things up to competition.

In the meantime, there are millions of cards in circulation from the past 70 years of the NBA. Many of them feature better players, photography, and technology than what’s being produced today. Take some time to enjoy those instead.

Talking about bad practices, card companies need to stop signing exclusive contracts and placing autos in every boxes, especially since there is now a renew interest in paralllel and insert cards. All this can reduce their cost and hopefully lower the prices of the products.

You don't even need that. If people stopped paying 2 or 3x MSRP for products whose value are not even close to their price, you won't see anything like this. Same with cards.

Look at where the hobby was about a year ago and where it is now.

Technically speaking there are no guaranteed numbered hits in blasters. So...you could print more if you wanted or they held a ton back.

Glad I sold off a big chunk of my 2019-20 blasters, megas, and cellos before all of this hit! This was a great season for Panini product, hopefully the next talented class can do something like this to the retail market again. My PC has grown more in the last 4 months than it has in the last 2 years thanks to this Zion obsession!

They should make illegal to resell retail products once purchased. Especially over MSRP. Get rid of the secondary market for reselling. Products should only be for consumption not to make a profit on once sold.

This is the type of stuff that makes me think twice about ever giving Panini another dime.

Not a good look.
