Depends if it’s been trimmed and then graded or not

It made more sense to me a pay less for a card that I knew was trimmed than save up more for a copy that may or may not be.

Can’t imagine all the people with Brady rookies that are the centerpieces to their collections that are graded copies that are trimmed and don’t even know it.

Probably impossible to know, but that would be a shame.

I heard that some of 2000 contenders were miscut as well.

Awesome pickup, opie.

As long as you're happy, that's all that matters.

I don’t think 85% are trimmed. Perhaps high end stuff graded since 2017, but not overall.

I mean one way of looking at it is that it's better to spend $5k on an altered one instead of $45k on an altered one.

Are any of these cards available out there
unaltered with dinged corners and/or chipped edges
in a comparable price range?

Personally, I'd prefer to go that route.
The trimming part would always distract me.

Plus it's part of his personal collection, so I guess another positive is that there's one more trimmed one taken off the open market.

I also follow and collect comic books...the hobbies are fairly similar and even more so now that alteration are out in the open for sports cards. Alteration, restoration, whatever you want to call it has been around in comics since people took black sharpies and started coloring in spine stress marks. Point is, this card has become so iconic that its approaching Amazing Fantasy 15 (1st spiderman) or hulk 181(first wolverine) levels of hobby. People will pay thousands for those books with the damn cover ripped off, or it professionally cleaned and restored. Because an authentic high grade original has just risen out of most people’s budget. In a perfect world we would all own un altered, graded, authentic stuff. But, in reality we get what makes us happy and what doesn’t break our bank account. Congrats OP, enjoy

Congrats on picking up a PC card. Nothing else matters as long as you are happy with your collection.

Congrats OP! I'm with you, I could never afford an un-altered graded Contenders but I was able to pickup this one a few years ago for half the price it is now and I'm happy to just have an authentic copy of the football holy grail. I definitely recommend sending to BAS and slabbing it.

My takeaway from all of this after saying GREAT CARD OP! is that I really hope the trimmer lost their shirt over it when it didn't come back with an actual grade.

This is and will likely be for the next several decades, the card every high end football collector is after.
