I was the 2nd highest bidder last night on the 2021 Stadium Club Wave Refractor.

Cant believe it went >$250! I couldnt be live for the auction, so I just threw some money at the wall and crossed my fingers.

Which one of you degenerates outbid me? Haha

Anyone else notice that sellers are raising their asking prices lately? Seems like the off season pricing is going away making it tougher to find deals.

I couldn't believe that went that high either. . . is that one much more rare than the 1991 variation?

I definitely noticed an uptick in Ohtani prices lately.

Awesome pick up...very jealous! I love the card, but can't quite convince myself to pay SSP money for a card that is a SP.

Yes - the base wave refractors are much rarer but the pack odds are confusing. Maybe someone with greater knowledge can chime in.

The base design Wave Refractors are 1:112, the base Red Refractors are 1:284. The red refractors are /5 so I'm assuming the base wave refractors have a print run somewhere between 10 and 15.

The 91 Var wav refractors are listed at 1:112, but the 91 Variation Red Refractors are 1:4,484.

If you hop on eBay there are about 40 '91 Variation Wave Refractors of Ohtani for sale ranging from $50-$200 and prob close to 50 have sold since release. There are quite a few to go around.

I have seen 4 base wave refractors since release and all have sold for +$200.

Awesome pickups all!

Trying to find some Ohtani articles to read before the season. Found this article and gives a good perspective of how he was using his fastball last year. Hope you find it interesting.

There’s about 450 of these Ohtani Bowman Chrome variations. Pretty close to the rumored 300 print runs of topps SSP. I think the price is very warranted. Just my opinion.

I love this Ohtani. One of my favorites of his rookies.

I could be totally off base, but from prior discussions on this board I was under the impression that the print run was ~2000.

The pack odds are the same for each wave version 1:112 = two per case. The major difference is a 400-card base checklist which leaves about 12 Wave Refractors for the bast set. The inserts have a print run over just over 200 per wave refractor.

The wave scarcity is still relatively unknown and there are deals to be had on lower level names but the stars go for a ton. I’ve bid and lost on a majority - including this Shohei

Thanks for the PR info. Wasn't sure on it but there's never that many available and I love the image.

Happy to finally own one

I should have had an extra cup of coffee to get my brain jump started this morning haha. That makes more sense.

You got me curious so I found this info from Beckett:

"These aren’t the toughest short prints of the year, but they’re not going to pop up in large numbers, either. 2018 Bowman Chrome Rookie Image Variations land 1:133 hobby packs. That’s about every eleventh box. That means most every hobby case will have one but there will be the occasional one that has two. Because HTA boxes only come with autographs, 2018 Bowman Chrome SSP cards are hobby-only

Thirteen of the 15 variations also have autograph versions. Nick Williams and Alex Verdugo are the only ones without. Rookie Image Variation Autographs are 1:2,766 hobby packs. One-of-one Superfractor Autographs are 1:67,785 packs."

Not sure if that's enough info to calculate but I got a ~441 PR for the RC Image Variation using these numbers. I could be way off but it's in line with what CP10 was saying around 450

I stand corrected! Someone in the past on this thread said roughly 2000. I am not very good at math and calculating print runs. Now I am kicking myself for not picking one up this off season when I had the chance.

But I do have this one which I also think is a SSP. Anyone know the print run on this Bowman platinum image variation with Ohtani holding his bag?

I like that card as well

My math got ~598 for the PR for 2018 BP Variations, Beckett called them SSPs
