Do you use a PO Box? That's one reason it bypasses.

Wait... so if we use a PO Box as a delivery address, we skip the "authenticity" process? Is this also regardless of card value?

This was news to me so I had to dig a bit but this P.O. Box bit apparently is true.

https://pages.ebay.com/authenticity-...-tradingcards/

Scroll to "What items are eligible for Authenticity Guarantee" section.

Huh...might be worth opening up a PO Box just for this purpose.

Well, the authenticity program uses FedEx for shipping, and they don't deliver to P.O. Boxes. I assume that's why those bypass the program.

I'm pretty sure I've gotten several authenticated packages via USPS...

Over $750 uses FedEx. Which is why PO Boxes were ineligible when the program started because it was only raw $750+.

Will it fail? I'm not sure... (I'm the buyer, definitely didn't look at this when I sent the offer that got accepted)

edit: passed, got the card.

Well... I guess I can at least report one positive authentication experience: I just got a call from eBay noting the card I purchased did not meet the condition listed when sold.

Essentially the card has a crease running the whole width of the back of the card. It was not visible in the listing photo, and not noted by the seller (seller had actually pitched good condition in the listing).

eBay sent me a photo from the authenticator wondering if it was OK to void the sale and ship back to the seller.

Thank you eBay!

Have an auto that I bought for $103 headed for authenticating

Going from CA to Florida to WA.....really annoying....would have likely had the card in hand already otherwise. And it's from a current release (Topps Black Chrome).....

Probstein setting records with ebay authentication turnaround.

Won two graded cards Tuesday night Jan 17, paid Thursday morning, Jan 19. Both going through authentication by PSA. Here's the latest progress on the ebay authentication:

  • Paid Jan 19 4:30am pacific / 7:30am eastern
  • Tracking provided Jan 19 12:07pm pst / 3:07 est (*Valid FedEx tracking number provided in an email from ebay)
  • Shipment info sent to FedEx Jan 19 5:13am (? this is out of sequence?)
  • Item authenticated Jan 20 3:15 pst / 6:15pm est (got an email at 6:15pm confirming this)

*tracking number provided in email from ebay still just says "label created", from Clifton, NJ to Santa Ana, CA. Dummy tracking, perhaps? The 2 cards I bought each have thier own tracking number

It got authenticated ~35 hours after I paid. I'm assuming they are batch-shipping sold cards to PSA, otherwise this doesn't make sense. But they would have had to ship the cards out before I paid for them in order for them to get from NJ to CA and get authenticated this quickly.

Any other theory?

Oh… I misunderstood the issue… with the image I get what you are asking: “how does Probstein get such fast authentication?”

Why do I feel like I remember something that said Probstein auctions were automatically authenticated or something like that. Like they take Probstein as the authenticator, and it doesn’t go through another service?

Or am I misremembering this?

I’m sure probstein gets special treatment. Looks like he is doing bulk overnight shipping daily for all his items going to PSA. Probably the same for CSG.

Saw your initial reply and waited for the edit

I thought maybe they bypassed somehow...til the update showed that the card was coming back from Cali

They must be shipping batches, probably overnight/express as mentioned.

If they wait until payment, it could have gone out Thur morning, delivered to PSA Fri morning, authenticated that same day.

Just thought the speed of authentication looked fast. No issues with the actual process, as I don't really need to track the item between Probstein & PSA, so the dummy tracking number doesn't bother me.

HAHA! I can't guarantee I will get things right on the first pass, but at least I will try to improve as I go

I hear you re: Probstein... its interesting, this thread made me realize its been FOREVER since I won an auction with them.

The system works, I even sent my card to the eBay Vault just for kicks.

Bought a pretty big card (for me) and it’s going through authentication right now. Here’s the traveling it’s going to do.

1. Lutz, FL
2. MY USPS distribution center 2 miles from my house
3. Santa Ana, CA
4. Back to my USPS distribution center 2 miles from me
5. Me

I could have sworn that I’ve gotten cards authenticated within 90 miles of me. How can they logistically be this terrible?

Raw cards go to CSG in Sarasota. Slabs go to PSA in Cali.

not sure if this is posted elsewhere but from twitter:

guy wins $5500 brady from ebay

card is sent to authenticator and passes

fedex then misdelivers the card to the wrong address when sending to the buyer

neither ebay nor fedex will refund the buyer

Misdelivered cards are a HUGE problem in the EBay universe because items get marked "delivered" by the USPS even when delivered to the wrong address, and of course the buyer cannot prove that he/she didn't receive the item.

Agree.

If you read through this particular story they actually have admitted they delivered it to the wrong address and it was signed for by a construction worker at that address. The guy has the cops involved and I guess they can’t locate the guy who signed or something. Fedex is saying ebay needs to file an insurance claim and ebay is stonewalling the guy.
