I think that is the same type of scan (recycled pics from past auctions) that has been happening a lot lately...

Pretty telling when 7/8 of your top 10 items are baseball or sleep related!

my main surprise from that image was actually how reasonable the exquisite auto went for. That's about the only auto card that I wish I acquired earlier - may not be licensed but it doesn't pretend to be something it's not (like panini).

I'm not going to be happy if this lockout disrupts Shohei's season! He's in his prime...ugh.

Anyone know the print run on the 2018 Topps heritage #600 color swap variation? Just picked one up!

Not the most valuable Ohtani by any stretch, but love the shot. As always, Stadium Club photography is goat, and that 1991 Stadium Club design is nostalgic! I beleive the Superfractor version of this card recently sold on eBay.

2021 Stadium Club Chrome Shohei Ohani 1991 Variation - Orange Parallel /25 (that was a mouthful...)

This is a two part question:

When it comes to Ohtani's 2018 Bowman Chrome Rookie Autograph, is there a general consensus on whether:

1.) The "pitching" or "batting" card holds greater value, and
2.) The quasi color-match blue parallel #'d to 150 holds more or less value than the more scare green parallel #'d to 99

I've been trying to ascertain this myself, however I've not really found concrete evidence -- which leads me to believe the pitching/batting and blue/green varieties (and all combinations therein) are all of relatively equal value.

Thanks in advance!

Pitching and batting currently hold similar value, but the pitching is the "1st Bowman" Chrome Auto. Ohtani was never a prospect in the US so he never got a 1st insignia, but the pitching card is it. People made the argument that he's a much better batter than a pitcher and that will drive demand, but 2021 put that in question. Batting is from Bowman Chrome (second release) and was all redemptions so they were really easy to gem. This is a significant factor when it comes to graded copies as it's far easier to find a gem batting auto. I'd take a gem pitching over batting any day for that reason.

Blue is just more popular overall. Additionally, 90% of Ohtani green pitching autos have streaks in the signature - pen looks like it was going bad for that run. People pay less for streaky autos. Therefore you need to take the auto into account as a deduction from the green instead of a premium for the blue. Overall though, who doesn't want an Angel Blue auto versus Angel Green..

People here know I am a huge fan of the pitching auto for pedigree, condition (toughness to gem), and theatric quality of the image. I think it eventually pulls away in terms of value.

Additionally: the Bowman pitching auto is far more elegant than batting auto (see my previous posts). The redemption autos were signed after he had Tommy John and looks a lot more mechanical. Some people say who cares, others (like me) care tremendously. Just another factor.

I thought about you today when all three of my Ohtani Icon 10s came back as PSA 8s .

PSA definitely flagged that card and cracked down hard. Ohtani getting the Mike Trout pop control treatment already. I guess will hold onto my PSA 10s tightly now.

Ouch, no mercy, at all there as I know you have a good eye, and I totally feel that I lucked out on my crossover. BUT, the bigger takeaway is that you have three - good grief man!

Fantastic and thorough explanation -- greatly appreciate it, blue! All of the points make sense, and I do agree that the picthing action shot is a great one!

It's actually seven copies in total. But yeah, getting too expensive to rely on luck with these PSA subs. Just saw economy opened back up at $50/per but on an allocation basis. Have to go through my "grade one day" pile now.
