Yikes.
Reminds me of the house squatters that trashed their own homes on the way out during the sub prime mortgage debacle in the 2000s. Zero accountability and delusional entitlement.

Topps with the middle finger on the way out.

I remember being very interested to see what Topps put together as a care package for that guy. They treated this like any old expired redemption and sent him $5 worth of junk. They've reached new heights of not caring over there

Wow, Topps hooked him up. Shouldn't have received anything.

Looks like this guy was part of a break in Feb this year of 2018 bowman chrome. In the video, no one mentions the redemption is expired: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=0t-F5G_iq0o

From Twitter it looks like it was a personal pull and it was expired by 3 months when the redemption was sent in. Waited over a year to get the junk autos.

Look at moderator name near Twitter title - Vincent Botticelli or something like that. Then go to last 1-2 minutes of the video where they say his name and it’s in the bottom of the chat box of the break. Looks to be the same person or no?

Probably is the same card but sounded like it was from a personal box and not a break on Twitter. Exaggerated about how long it had been since expiration. I believe that it was a bum deal from Topps but it was expired and I would not even attempt to submit an expired redemption since I know what would happen. Topps does not have a history of honoring expired redemptions.

Just from this story coming out I've seen 2 people come out and say they had expired redemptions honored, in the similar expiration date time frame as the Ohtani. One was even from the same product, 2018 Bowman Chrome. Just saying it does happen

I had a 2018 Archives redemption redeemed successfully about a month ago...not sure why you wouldn't try...shrug.

Not trying to put the cart ahead of the horse but what do you guys think a repeat healthy season does for Ohtani's legacy? Maybe not 2021 level, but say .260/35/15 with 3.00/1.10/120IP. I'm not asking about MVP consideration (cause that would likely win it) or card value, but historical sports relevance. It would still be too early to call him a HoF lock, but you gotta start thinking about it if he repeats. WAR clearly doesn't tell his story.

...last august, I thought a lot about what Ohtani means moving forward;
just reposting my thoughts here.

Just ask Trout about hitting, and the all-time great pitchers working in the MLB media about pitching.
(Even Ichiro says baseball is the only sport where you can fail 7 out of 10 times and be considered a great player.)
Shohei trying to do both is so taxing and unprecedented;
Both Ohtani believers and skeptics have valid arguments.

Believers:
Ohtani has adjusted/adapted all his life to find success on the field
Power+Speed+Pitching = The most talented player in the game right now
Strong physically & mentally
All the greats like him, believe in him & support him (Ichiro, Trout, Pujols, Cabrera, Pedro, Smoltz, CC, JJ Watt, Kevin Durant, etc.)
Great teammate & person
He just loves playing baseball, and his only goal is to contribute to the team's success

Skeptics:
Already had TJ, among many other injuries
With his 2-way play, more taxing on the body, so more threat of future injury
He is already 27
Low counting stats so far 4 seasons in his career

HOWEVER, to address the skepticism:

Already had TJ, among many other injuries:
---> He is a student of building his body/taking care of his body since his youth;
He adjusted his way of taking care of his body for the 2021 season, working with specialists, adjusting his diet, and using a more data-driven daily regimen, which led to his MVP-type season.

With his 2-way play, more taxing on the body, so more threat of injury:
---> Injuries are part of the game; No one knows what will happen in the future.
However, Ichiro once said that the best skill of Ohtani is his [Adaptability]; He will assess his performance after this season, and adjust accordingly to take better care of his body and improve his performance for the 2022 season.

He is already 27 + Low counting stats:
---> As Japanese baseball great Hiromitsu Ochiai said, who entered Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) as a 26-year old rookie, there are 2 ways to etch your name in history:
1) Have a long career and pile up the numbers, or;
2) Do something that has never been done before.

Ochiai knew that he has little chance to pile up counting stats, so he decided on GETTING THE TRIPLE CROWN 3 TIMES (the most in NPB history at the time was 2, by Sadaharu Oh).
And Ochiai did just that, being the only 3-time Triple Crown winner in NPB history.
Ochiai said that Ohtani can etch his name into history by doing #2.

Acuna, Tatis, Vlad, Soto are all great;
Youth is on their side, so their path to greatness is #1.
Shohei's path is #2 - the road less taken.

Therefore:
As long as Ohtani stays healthy, and with his adaptability, God-given talent, physical & mental fortitude, & his love for his team, teammates, and the game,
Shohei will etch his name in history, and be in the Hall Of Fame.

Multiple seasons of very good pitching performance and good hitting should put him in the hall of fame. Think pitching performance could be more important than hitting since it shows that he is much more than a DH. Will 2 seasons be enough? Not sure but 3-4 seasons consistently in a row could make him a very valid HOF candidate. Now the Angels need to get some more hitting and preferably a much better SS. If he can start pitching and hitting in playoff series and making huge impacts with both then this would also help his candidacy.

What do you think is the minimum requirement for Ohtani to be enshrined via option #2? Three two-way MVP caliber seasons?

I actually do think Ohtani can still take path #1, as demonstrated by Ichiro. In my ideal fantasy world, he plays two-way full time till he's 33-34 and then pulls a Shigeno Goro and plays the field, eventually DHing into his 40s

I do think the playoffs are in sight for the Angels after they spend another $40M next year. Would love to see an Ortiz/Eckersely role later in his career. That would be ridiculous

TrueBlue, I really do not have any idea, as what Ohtani is doing is unprecedented;
The only thing I am sure is that whatever happens, Shohei will try his darnedest to realize every ounce of his potential.

And that ultimately, I have the same sentiment as NYRE2PECT:
I will cheer him on, while enjoying the SHO.
