I hope he gets the call if someone drops out of the Home Run Derby.

Saving him for next year once he's officially a player with a RC shield

Doesn't equate to long term success, but man he's fun to watch.
Harper, Griffey, ARod.

The above was right on, Yasiel Puig was electric in 2013, Kris Bryant also. I want to say Judge too. Ohtani got injured so he simmered down. But Elly's actual speed and power combination are on another level

Yeah...i've been actively in the Hobby since 2000 ish. Every year this is some form of hobby darling...or next big thing. The fanfare and hobby following is a mixed bag. That being said....Im a big Elly Fan. Wish i would have picked up more when i could.

Here is my baseball list of who was the "Next big thing"...

2001: Ichiro was all the rage, not much of Pujols...he was an after thought
2003: Matsui was pretty big....and ofcourse this was the year of Lebron for basketball.
2010: Strasburg Mania was crazy. Hard to believe. First time i remember base 1st selling in the $40 range. I think collectors forget all about Strasburg mania. It was unreal.
2011: Harper was big...but nothing compared to Strasburg
2013: Puig seemed legit. People loved the way he played, and his first Autographs sold crazy high.
2015: Kris Bryant. For 2 years he was the hobby darling. Came out of the gate HOT. ROY...MVP...Cubs world series. He was considered a sure bet in the Hobby. I still collect him
2017: JUDGE His Topps RCs were selling in the $50 range at one point. Baseball +Yankee+Homeruns= HYPE machine for the hobby. Fun year to collect.
2018: Ohtani was huge, but his injuries made him fizzle out. Acuna came onto the map. But his hype was nothing like Elly. People did believe in Acuna, but i don't think he was driving products. Soto as well.
2019: Wander Bowman Chrome hype. First base to start off in the $500 plus range.

2020-2022: Had many "RC to collect" but not the excitement of Elly. Wander was carrying 2022 products for a while.

So in my opinion, Strasburg, Bryant, Puig, and Judge all had the electric hobby hype as Elly. Im a believer in Elly, so i hope he continues to rake and bring down his K rate. Young exciting super stars is great for baseball and the overall hobby.

Pretty good list though there's several guys from 2002 Bowman Draft that were very hot and that product kept giving as they all hit MLB at different times and became popular quickly - Dontrelle Willis was the biggest, Jeff Francoeur was huge, BJ Upton, and even Zack Greinke and Cole Hamels for a time. There were some days in 03-04 where you could just throw a dart and hit a hot prospect. Brandon Wood was fuego for a while, so was Nick Markakis, and Delmon Young. The big college names around then were Mark Prior, Rickie Weeks, and Teixeira and they each got some time in the sun. Then we did hit some doldrums with a bunch of dud years but still with some big team names popping up every so often, remember Joba Chamberlain?

And never forget before Oneil Cruz and Elly there was Joel Guzman. 6'7 and came up through the Dodgers org with a lot of hype.

This post brought up some names that I haven’t heard in a while - good times!

Irvin Joel Guzman had so many cards that said rookie on them, it was incredible

Dontrelle Willis was the hottest I can ever remember a prospect being. That was legit nuts when it was happening. Mark Prior and Kerry Wood were also insane at the time of.

The only one that mattered to me was that 01 TCT Retrofractor
I think I had 6 or 8 at one point

I actually pulled a gold back in the day, can’t remember what I did with it.

Said he wanted to rest because winning and helping his team was more important and turned it down. That from a 21 year old hotshot rookie.

I'm surprised Bryant Rookie auto's still sell as high as they do....I'd think he'd be down around $25'ish. But his Archives and Stadium Club still sell around $100-$150 which is weird to me since he hasn't done much over the last 5 years.

I'd imagine being the best player on a team that won the team's first championship since before WW1 is the cause for some of the staying power.

RBI single, steals second, steals third, then steals home. Unbelievable
