I buy cards I both like and perceive to have value and sell cards to upgrade into other cards I like better and/or sell them to pay for real life expenses. Some in the immediate, some in the long term. I have no intentions of keeping my cards forever because they won’t do me much good in a grave.
Not sure if that makes me a true or false collector I could care less as long as I get enjoyment out of the hobby and it helps my family in a tangible way at the same time. I thoroughly enjoy cards and the process, but if you elevate them to a status that goes beyond things that should be first priorities, then I most certainly have no wish to be a “true collector.”Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I purchased the card originally with the intention of keeping it, but I improved the quality of my collection so I let it go, with no intention of profit and usually at a loss. So yes, most of us are false collectors. |

If you aren't then these are just hypothetical situations which shouldn't bother you either. Starting to sound like you have a problem with people who make any profit on cards. True collectors only sell cards at a loss! ![]() Back to the card shows, the most in demand items seem to be Pokémon, Ohtani, and PCA from my experience this weekend.

Haha, you got me man. I just wonder what the qualifying time to hold cards to be a real collector is…10 years, 25 years, or till death? Do I have to check in with people on here before I sell a card? If so, which people? I know there’s a hierarchy, I’m just not sure I have it all correct. You already know from previous discussions that I’m cashing out one day and giving whatever “hobby refund” I get back to the kiddos. I just laugh at the arbitrary labels placed on people so that some can feel superior to others. Keeping cards is fine, selling cards is fine, just don’t swindle people and you’re cool with me. Would true collectors be considered hoarders?

Not sure this belongs in this thread but if not my apologies. My sons and i are going to the Dallas Card Show in Cincinnati. We have been to only one other show prior and we did not buy anything. But we plan to buy if we see what we like but my question is what is the usual way of payment at most Shows. Thank you

On the rare occasions I go to a show I carry $100-200 with me in cash for small purchases, but my expectation for any card over $50 would be to be able to pay electronically. |
