Surely I'm not the only one who hears this music in his head (from 'Come Fly With Me' video 1984 Olympics sequence) every time he sees the 84S #195?

edit: I notice they use action footage throughout the rest of the video but only still shots from the Olympic games. Copyrights etc?

Here is the part I don't understand. And maybe one you guys can provide some answers from your experiences. Let's assume it sells for even just 80k. Which looks very realistic right now. This card was just purchased a few weeks ago in the 55k range. Why this much of a jump this quickly? Are there more buyers in the market for this card that did not exist just a few weeks ago? What are some of your theories?

Because the fractional ownership firms and investment groups are totally analyzing the population reports now. Pop reports have always been an important factor with grading, but now more than ever, especially with these new groups coming from real estate, stock investing, etc., they look at data analysis and charts like no joke.

As I write this, there are only 900 Star 101's in the registry. How many more 86 Fleers are there for PSA, BGS, and SGC combined? 11,000+ at BGS; 18,000+ at PSA; 2,200+ at SGC. That's 31,000 Fleer vs 900 Star.

Add to the fact that new collectors aren't prejudiced against Star unlike some veteran collectors. So people are finally seeing the silver lining here that this is Jordan's true rookie card, whether you like it or not. That whole "but it wasn't available through nationally distributed wax packs" argument is futile now, since big money is being spent on obscure Jordan cards that also were not nationally distributed like the 1985 Nike Promo, 1985 Interlake Bulls Jordan, 1985 Prism Jewel, etc.

The game has changed and people are wising up about the 101. And it's about time. As more new collectors pour into the hobby, the numbers are going to reflect this.

Thats a very good answer. However, there is an 8 that has just been sitting there for 70k. When does someone just abandon this auction and jump on that one? Or are these just strictly 8.5 buyers? I guess all it takes is 2 wealthy people to get in a bidding war.

If the PWCC 8.5 hits over $100k and that 8 at Goldin goes over $70k someone almost certainly will hit that BIN this week.

Would ya'll trust a Star 85 Jordan graded by GAI? Card looks good in pics but centering is too good. Besides the bday, REB, and line on the back, what else should I be looking at?

No. GAI cards come come back trimmed/altered. Stay away from those.

That L-R centering on that GAI card is WAY too perfect.

Thanks for this info.

Sellers says it’s his card that he had GAI grade at a card show in Kansas City. Says at the time GAI rivaled PSA, and they only had issues last two years of their existence. Guarantees it’s authentic and unaltered.

Would a purchase through PayPal still be risky?

Ask yourself, what makes you so special that instead of him sending it himself to BGS, he's decided that he's going to leave (LOTS of) money on the table and sell it to you ?

No one's going to give this stuff away.

Is that even a GAI holder? All GAI holders that I have seen have black gaskets. Be careful with this one.

Makes me wonder as the higher this PWCC auction creeps up, will all the other eBay sellers with a 101 8.5 with established Buy-It-Now prices adjust accordingly. Certainly they have to be monitoring the performance of the PWCC 101 8.5

I was shocked to see there are 7 8.5s up on eBay right now in addition to the PWCC one. I'm really anxious to see where this one and the 8 at Goldin end up.

6.0 only went for 13,400.00 tonight...101 is cooling off, big time!! The other 6.0 started at 20,000.00 and ended with zero bids and the card is relisted at 20K...good luck with that. I wish PWCC would go away b/c they sure know how to manipulate the buyers.

Is Goldin manipulating buyers too? Their BGS 8 is almost at $50k with 4 days to go. Explain to me how that is the card cooling off.

"101 is cooling off big time", because of one rough looking BGS 6 that had 5.5 subgrades for corners and blurry as hell scans, and another BGS 6 that was overpriced with a starting bid???

Please.

I think both of you are right. This what I've been saying. The lower grades are cooling off. I noticed this when a 7.5 sold for 29k. Thats why I'm waiting cause all i can afford is a lower grade at this point. Howver, having said that. When it comes to the higher grades it does appear that it is still trending upwards. Why? My theory is that there is a different class of buyer interested in the higher grades. Which is good news for those of you who own 8s and above.

Please?

Same grade and same subgrade(corners) was sold for well over 30,000.00 a month ago. Maybe b/c the scans were perfect. PWCC sold the card...

I dont follow Goldin so I cant answer your question.

Check out Card Gem's latest YouTube video where he addresses why are Star cards so hot right now. (Starts at 21:00 min mark.)

He also talks about the 101 and its potential.

What are you looking to prove? That 101's BGS 6 are cooling off? I think your missing what everyone here is telling you- the 101's as a entirety are not cooling off- maybe your lower grade bgs 6s you have a liking to are

Are you saying they are just "cooling down" a bit from the record highs, but will hold steady well above what they were a few months ago?

Or are you saying they will cool down to what they were a few months ago?

I could see them not sustaining the record highs we've seen the past 4-6 weeks, but I can almost guarantee all Star cards won't ever go back to what they were pre-February.

You're right, all Star cards will not ever go back to what they were pre-February...thanks to Tom Brady?

Great video. He's absolutely correct. One thing I would disagree with him on. He said if a 9.5 sells is will go over $500K. I would bet if a 9.5 goes up for sale it will go for over 1 million.
