Expecting a delivery from Wheeler today with my last 13 cards. Will finish off my Gibson and Don C sets entirely and basically complete my Naturel/Ermsy/Trout runs. Only cards I'll be short will be the Ermsy Trout and Naturel Robinson.

So, they can basically make anything without having the "original design" attached to them.

And in that sense, OMA was ahead of everyone else

I bet that's a VERY rough draft. It looks like he's starting with 1987 Topps, backflipping to 1962 Topps, and adding some Taylorisms. I wonder if he's going to fill in the border more. It looks pretty good so far.

In one of his Facebook posts, he also led me to believe that he's doing a Darryl Strawberry too, so this is the direction he's taking the set. Hopefully there's an AROD, Bonds, Clemens, Manny, and David Ortiz coming too.

I can't post about Matt Taylor without dropping a RIP SCREECH.

My understanding is that they are supposed to pick an existing card design to go with any player image of their choosing, sort of a mashup if you will. I think a lot of people read it as having more freedom, but I think "reimaging" (from P2020) offers a lot more leeway if one wanted to take it. I think having a set rule of picking from any of their existing card designs has a chance to be much ore limiting (if it is in fact one of the "rules" and I'm not misunderstanding).

Plenty of other people to choose from if you don't like OMA. His P2020 set is much nicer than both Baller and Don C, who TBP seems to give a pass for some reason even though they are not "artists" by his definition either.

E - my thoughts exactly when I saw this. What on earth is that??? Maybe it's like TBT where they can pick from the entire universe of Topps' designs, even those that never got made (like Montgomery Club, too, right?)

Oli - Canseco is one of the cardboard legends from the 80s and 90s. He is certainly "notorious" but the love for him was very very real and there are still hardcore Canseco collectors today. I'd have been shocked if he WASN'T included in P70. Same with Bo Jackson. There are guys who were collected HARD by all the 39/40 year olds on this board back in the 80s who aren't as highly regarded today (though Canseco's fan base has definitely dwindled and shifted). I'm sure you know all this. I mean, for a moment, even an Ozzie Canseco card was a nice pull.

My enthusiasm for P70 is real.

Interesting take! If anything, I think it's going to give people too much freedom. Whenever there's an ambiguous rule, people are gonna break it.

Plus, in the Taylor card, he's just taking the page flip from 1962 Topps, a portrait that is slightly similar to 1987 Topps Canseco, and then designing his own card. [Point being, there isn't all that much carried over from the existing card designs besides inspiration]

I have no problem with Canseco being included Dustin. I didn't mean that negatively. I remember hoping to pull his 86 Donruss card out of a pack. I want to see a better mix of players. Eddie Murray was my guy as I grew up an O's fan. Sure hope an artist selects him in P70.

Eddie Murray will also be in the set, 3,000 hit club, HOF, popular player. NO DOUBT in my mind he will be one of the 700+ subjects chosen.

My sense is there won't be much duplication of subjects. I'll be prepared to eat those words, but that's my early impression.
