Ohtani “very open” to signing an extension with the Angels this year.

And the excitement for next season begins. Get your slabs in hand and prepare for more SHO-TIME next season. Thank you for giving me a reason to tune in to baseball.

I have been following Shohei all season and am still trying to wrap my head around it. What he accomplished, even with the big slump at the plate in the 2nd half, is what I dreamt about as a kid. Hell, I never really stopped dreaming about it. I’m sure I’m not the only one. For those of you who shared the same dream, we didn’t fall asleep dreaming and wishing we could hit and pitch just like... well... nobody. A modern player with the ability to excel at both didn’t exist. I knew all about Ruth but his career was so long ago that it was hard to connect with.

The current and next generation of players with aspirations of becoming a two-way player (even a few older fans of the game) have a name to connect their dreams to and a path to follow. That is pretty freaking cool in my opinion.

I don't think his season will really sink in with me until after the World Series. I can't really fathom or comprehend what we just witnessed from him this year.

Honestly I think it’s the type of season that will sustain his hobby relevance through the ups and downs maybe forever?! It’s in the books for good now and we might not ever see anything like it again (from someone other than him). Never say never…but wow. I don’t have a ton of his stuff but my sentiment goes way beyond his cards/values. Just an incredible feat.

If he follows up this historic season with another one next year, more likely with a healthy trout and others. His rbi total will be higher. His win total will be higher. He will not be walked as much with protection. Stock up. He will be better next year. He wants to be great and that means a lot.

His attitude is what sets him apart. He WANTS to improve and be better every year, he even blames himself if he pitches a complete game and the Angels lose 1-0. As opposed to the other members of the Angels that stub their toe and then take the year off ****cough****Justin Upton****cough****

While he didn't qualify, this is where his pitching numbers would rank. (Note, I'm not factoring in other pitchers that fell short of qualifying)

ERA 3
W-L% 1
WHIP 4
Hits per 9IP 2
K per 9 4
ERA+ 2
FIP 6
SO/BB 9

Finally, batters hit .207/.286/.351 vs him

Those are historical numbers for a hitter and he pitches.

I love the Shohei, what a ride.

Hopefully, he learned a ton about his body this year, where he could push, where he needs to yield, and what he needs to do to adjust to how people pitch him.

I watched as much live baseball this year as I probably have in the last collective ten years, and that is due to Sho.

2018 AL Rookie of the Year
2021 AL MVP
2022 Cy Young?

If he could somehow post a Cy Young campaign on top of his already lofty accomplishments we would start to border on other-worldly

Put Ohtani on the Blue Jays and they would have made the playoffs because of his pitching starts with legitimate run support. Adding another starting pitcher to the Jays would have been more valuable to the team than the margin between Ohtani and Vlad's offense.

Prices are actually fairly strong even after the slump and hype losing some air. Prices should be strong into ST and in-season pricing may eclipse last season if he is able to get anywhere near 2021 level. What a breath-taking year it was!!

For 2022, I personally think we see a small dip in power numbers with a step forward in pitching - .270/.340/35 and 2.90/130ip/160k. Of course, this is all health dependent.

What say you?

I'd guess

0.268/0.375/37 and 3.10/130IP/155K

Liked him so much this year I bought the batting orange last night

I finally purchased another PC card for Ohtani despite crazy prices. It was still more than I wanted to pay for it but hopefully arrives better than the scan looked. I got impatient and pulled the trigger on a suspect scan. Hopefully the gamble pays off.

New to the forum. Big Toronto Blue Jay fan, Guerrero and Ohtani fan, but it's clear Ohtani is going to win the AL MVP. I have enjoyed the slight price drop that allowed me to pick up some Ohtani cards and I was thinking of getting some more in the next couple of months. I was wondering whether anyone had any thoughts on whether his prices might stay the same as they are now into the offseason, or will they spike up once his MVP announcement comes out in November? Cheers
