This isn't football. That doesn't happen in MLB.

I saw that but the edges were a bit worn and I've been saving in hopes that more impatient sellers bail on their Bowman pitching color autos!

He had a big contract that Colorado was fine to get rid of. They weren't winning anything.

Ohtani on the other hand is gonna be making way less than he deserves and Arte wouldn't trade that away to appease a player.

And the Angels are winning anything? I mean, Arenado essentially forced his way out after only 2 years of an 8 year deal. They had just signed him to it! These things do happen.

Ohtani could force his way out if he really wanted to. He only has 1 more year on his contract before arbitration. We saw Trea Turner get dealt off a team that wasn't going anywhere because they knew he wasn't going to re-sign. And I don't think I'm going out on a limb by saying Ohtani has more pull.

I think that’s a fair point, however do you really think a team is going to want a guy who is having fatigue issues? Yes the star power is there, but as he gets older he’s going to get more fatigued. I don’t know if a team is going to sign a guy to a long term deal who A) has TJ history and B) can’t sustain both of his roles a full season. Huge risk but def would draw the crowd wherever he went. Didn’t he sign with LA because they were the only team willing to let him do both?

To me, this was the make or break year. If he had gotten hurt it was pretty much over for him. But his performance shows what he can do when healthy, and he avoided the dreaded injury prone designation (at least for now).

Next year, he's still under contract. If he has a year anywhere near this year and remains mostly injury free. Then yes. I think about every team in the league will want to sign him to a long term deal. There may be more protections built into the contract than normal. But I can easily see the vast majority of teams in the league giving him a long term deal if he stays healthy and performs next year.

True, but unless the NL bring in the DH, half of the league will be eliminated. If he duplicates this year
NY
Boston
Chicago AL
Seattle

Asian fan base for the last one

Will all be in the mix to sign him.

The NL will get the DH and he will sign with the Dodgers.

You don't think he would just get put into the outfield? His arm would be a plus and if he even did average think he would pencil out. Granted that would increase some wear and tear. But if Ohtani is willing, have to imagine teams would still jump on it at least to test him out.

What fatigue? What makes you think he is actually fatigued instead of just slumping at the plate?

Why wouldn’t a team want to sign Ohtani to a long term deal?

TJ history? Pitchers who haven’t had TJ aren’t the only ones to get long deals.

If you’re a team too scared of TJ and fatigue (really?!) to risk putting a #1 starter on the mound then...

... Option B - transition him to a full time position player who has the potential to put up big numbers at the plate, steal 20-30 bases a year, and win a gold glove or two.

How many players in the league, let alone in the history of the game, provide that kind of flexibility to a team?

Oh, and he is one of the most recognizable players in the league who adds huge marketing perks to any team.

He also works his tail off and isn’t a PR liability.

Teams have signed players to long term deals for a lot less.

I have to believe that in a world where a punk like Maccado can get paid hundreds of millions, a guy like Ohtani can at least match it.

Considering that they haven't won a single playoff game with Trout, and have been poorly run for years.. It is.

He's so gone. Calls out the team for playing like losers and the next game out they get run over by the Rangers.
