Couple of pack pulled favorites from last year. One from a corner store and one from a fat pack in a flea market- gotta love finding diamonds in the rough!

Since the marquee cards are getting out of hand for some collectors, here are some other Soto rookie cards that IMO are more reasonable that I would consider if the rest are out of reach:

* Archives #73 -- this has a better dugout photo than Heritage and can be found in PSA at around $75 with some good parallels to chase as well
* Living Set #43 -- I was surprised to see these were up to around $50 in PSA 10, but the art is well done and the design is classic
* Update #US104 / Chrome #HMT98-- yes, this is the Rookie Debut, but it's a great photo and at $50 in PSA 10 it's a fraction of #US300/#HMT55. If the bias against horizontal cards ever changes, this could be a sleeper.

Beautiful 104’s! I remember buying this raw for $15. Nice little win!

I like your style. They've definitely grown on me. I hated Heritage at first but now I can't get enough of them. I guess it's like the first time I tried beer and immediately spit it out and said why do people drink beer? The rest they say is history.

In this case you have only two bidders from $1,500 up to the final closing price of $2,550. Without those two bidders fighting each other, the price would have been ~$1,000 less. What I am trying to say is that I would put much more credence in the final price if there were multiple bids close behind the final winning bid that would act as a backstop and support to the final price. With such a huge gap down to the third highest bidder, I would be very cautious in using this price as a comp if I were a buyer.

Please note that I am not making any accusations of shilling or nefarious bidding, but with only two bidders pushing the price so far beyond recent comps and the other bidders, the possibility of buyers remorse, a non-paying bidder or a return seems high, and if the card were to be re-listed/re-auctioned, the price might not come anywhere close to this result.

Regards
I tend to agree, but want to offer one possible factor that cannot be known based on the final bids.

The auction closed: 7:16:11PM PST

The 2nd highest bid was placed at 7:16:09PM PST

The unknown was whether or not anyone tried to bid an amount higher than the 3rd highest bid ($1,551) at the last 1-2 seconds.

If I'm a prospective bidder and I have a bid of $2,050 queued up, when I click 'bid' at 7:16:10 (1 second to go), my bid does not get registered. The auction is already at $2,550 at the point I try to enter my one and only bid.

I've had this scenario play out a few times lately when I try to put a last second bid on an auction...perhaps one I haven't bid on previously...and when I attempt my bid, it's below the current auction price at that moment. I took my shot, but I wasn't high enough to win it. That auction ends, I lose, and it doesn't show up in my bid history. I never bid on that auction...I only attempted, but failed.

I hope that makes sense. In this case, the window is only 2 seconds, and that particular card is maybe not one that would garner multiple last second bidders. But it's possible.

That is a handsome lineup. It is unavoidable, but I wish the 2020 White was Black.

I have a PSA 10 and PSA 9 Black refractor from 2018. Waiting forever for the 2019 Black to come back from PSA. I plan on getting them for every year of Soto's career.

Nice! Congrats on the 10! I was hoping for one but that's how it goes sometimes.

I've resisted the white but will probably eventually cave.

Since we're sharing. It's fun to see Transcendent RC autos gain traction in general as the 2019 & 2020 prices climb. These could become PC cornerstones once Transcendent has a decade under their belt.

Yes. It looks nice and is as cheap as it gets for a PSA 10 Soto RC. There is nothing not to like about this card at the current price.

I am always cautious when I see prices jump in orders of magnitude, rather than incremental steps. As I said in my original post, nothing against Soto ( I am onboard, and a huge fan!), this particular card, or this particular auction. I just prefer to see either results move in a linear fashion, OR, have a few backup bidders right there at the closing price to show that the demand at the ending price is deep, sensible, and reflects the current market.

In the end, as long as the seller gets paid, and the buyer is happy with the price he paid and the card, then all is good!

Happy collecting!

Regards
Yes, I agree: “as long as the seller gets paid, and the buyer is happy with the price he paid and the card, then all is good!”

I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas!

I’ve seen this happen a few times with a some of my friends. This is the reason I try my hardest to drop my bid at 3 seconds left. So far, I’ve been successful at having it register.

Went in the mail Dec. 8th. No origin scan, just "USPS Awaits Item". Then 8 days later, it pops up in a nearby sorting facility. Then it was there for 5 days, and delivered yesterday.

It’s either that or a 2018-19 Threads hanger for 34.95 dlvd and sit on it for a long time

Nice card! After all that delay, you must be relieved it made it in safe and sound.

Seeing all these beautiful Sotos has inspired me to finally get to my project of updating my pics/inventory. Will post some highlights as I go.

Dynasty RCs to start
