Agree with the above post about him still trying to figure out hitting. He’s one of the fastest base runners in the league but has 183 Ks in only 516 ABs. He needs to learn how to make contact and use his speed for base hits instead of striking out. Can’t wait until next year! Think he might be done pitching for this year but not announced yet.

If you read between the lines, it's more him telling Arte to let people do their job and stay at home. There is money off the books and Minassian needs to be allowed to manage the team, not the owner.

If Ohtani has one more start, he would need to pitch at least eight innings without giving up an earned run to drop his ERA below 3.00 for the season.

To be honest, I think he had that sewn up at AS Weekend.

""I really like the team. I love the fans. I love the atmosphere of the team,” Ohtani said via an interpreter. “But, more than that, I want to win. That’s the biggest thing for me. I'll leave it at that.""

I have to say, beyond his obvious talent...he is a great sportsman and competitor.

hes probably gonna leave, cant imagine the leadership in that locker room - trout and rendon are the most complacent baseball players, treat it like a 9 to 5.

Blowout should have separate counters for posts and posts denigrating trout. It would be interesting to see people's ratios.

He is a free agent after 2023. Arte has 2 more seasons to make this right.

Well he needs to teach the rest of the hitters how to pitch because the Angels haven't been able to gather a group of decent pitchers in over 15 years.

Moreno is not interested in pitchers. The team was unprofitable the last time they won a world series 20 years ago. He's figured out a profitable model of overpaying superstars, appealing to the broader market and earning through stadium ticket sales and merchandise. Every Angels fan knows his M.O. which is why I don't see Ohtani fit for this org. He already gave up $200 M to compete at age 23 on a rookie minimum.

Trout knowingly signed an extension with no opt-out clause and Rendon's stated multiple times he is not driven solely by winning. Ohtani appears to have completely opposite ideology.

I'm pretty sure Anthony Rendon and Albert Pujols didn't sell many tickets this year. Trout is also very competitive - just doesn't stir the pot with the press. You're grossly generalizing.

I will however say that this is a team where the owner thinks he knows the sport cause he can read the back of a baseball card. A handful of superstars cannot win a championship.

I'm not saying they do not care about winning, it's clearly just not a main driver. Trout is competitive to an extent, but he doesn't have a chip like Arod who negotiated an opt-out clause to hold the Rangers orf accountable. There doesn't seem to be a sense of urgency.

And an owner's main and only objective is to raise the value of their franchise. To the extent they can win a world series that's great and for most it aligns with their main objective, but they're businessmen at the end of the day. Angels have been there and the team was still bleeding money. I don't think when he's going out and signing Pujols, Guerrero, Hamilton at 2x their market value, he's thinking about Championships.

Arod negotiated an opt out to get more money. There may have also been the idea to have the ability to get away from Texas, but he was also all in for as much money as he could get.

Some fair points, but economics from 2002 to now are very different. If you built a competent team of regulars around Trout and Ohtani, you can bet the house it's going to rocket revenue. Signing an incremental overpaid star (again) is going to have unnoticeable effects to business value.

Maybe he’ll force a trade this offseason to a franchise that is actually relevant.
