I assume anything said tongue in cheek is deathly serious and anything said seriously is sarcasm.

[I may be totally wrong in one take: Silus B. has the thickest skin / least penetrable emotional state of the participants here. I was in no way being serious in my response, except for where I discuss my feels for the Beck cards

Anyone have me on ignore yet?]

Maybe I'm a little dead inside and its nothing personal against any of you, but remembering the good times on this thread doesn't move the needle for me when I am ranking how I like the cards.

One of these is great and one of these is terrible.

This is true.

And I'm not offended at all. Only card that changes for me to be honest, is The Bashers card. (maybe that statue of Williams too... but I digress because at least some effort was put into that one [I keed I keed]).

Without this thread, The Bashers shouldn't have ever been made. With this thread, it's in the top 100.

Yesterday was Jacob Rochester day, today is Tyson Beck day. I can’t wait for Sophia Chang’s roast.

One last thing about Jacob Rochester is that I just have a few random cards on my desk today, and from across the room I’m drawn in by how colorful they are and how well they match up with each other. When I think of color, I think of Fucci or Grotesk, but Rochester is right up there.

I love how my 40th card put on there for fun because I couldn't decide and just needed to make cuts at some point between like 30 cards has lead us here; having to torture Wheeler with showing him Thiele's Williams again.

Both of those were in my top 100, and thinking one is terrible is why you're dead inside, not because of how you rank cards (this is a joke for clarity's sake).

Not doing a partial Rochester set is probably one of my regrets from the project.

How does one go about curating a partial set? By some interpretation, I have a partial set of all 20 players--well on my way to a full Williams set though.

Apologies if that sounds vague. I meant, is it merely a subset of the 20 cards or are there guidelines that should be met?

I was too much of a completion-ist by the end, partly to try to curb how much money I spent on the project with limited wall space to display sets, so I wasn't buying everything I wanted to without any limitations. Right now, I'm thinking 3 cards specifically for Rochester that I think would give me a feel for his complete set while also representing his highlights in my eyes; Rivera, Rickey, Gibson. I may do those 3 at some point, who knows. But it's just a partial set, of an unspecified size, that has some common theme (player, artist, joie de vivre, etc) for me.

Buy what you like. They’re just bubblegum cards made by artists.

Don't collections need some rules to determine what gets admitted? I would say a partial set is a type of collection.

Initially, I had two rules:
1) 10 cards for the artists that I liked, but I broke that rule when I realized that there were way more than 10 Ermsy cards that I really like
2) No Mariano, Jeter, Trout, or McGwire, since I don't feel any (positive) connection to them. But, I broke the rule when I saw how dope the Mariano set looks

Now, I have more of an accumulation than a collection. I feel like I have to impose some order to this when I decide what to keep long-term.

This project was diverse enough so that both art lovers and baseball card collectors - or neither - can have fun with it and collect what they like. There’s no single way to look at it, and no one is right or wrong in their opinions. I’m more along the lines of a ‘joie de vivre’ collector, but I’ve enjoyed reading posts from the artists and art fans too, for their perspective- again, not that I always understand or agree with it, but it’s another perspective. I don’t think anyone is trying to bash or impose their will on others, everyone is just expressing their opinions- it’s all good.

This is what makes this (set) more interesting; more access to perspectives, immediate reactions, changing opinions over time, etc. than I would ever typically get at a gallery or museum. I can read books, listen to guides, talk to the artist, etc., but it's been fun to read a diverse group of opinions about this in real time. None of those things I listed means a person has to view something a certain way, but for me personally, it adds to the enjoyment. If you only ever look at something through one lens, it gets boring quick, at least for me.

Three cards is a pretty good number, if I go by A) how many cards from most artists I truly love and B) how many cards I am able to process looking at at once.

For Rochester, Ermsy, and Fucci, I'll certainly have more than three. Grotesk, maybe, just because I think they look so good in a set.

For Siff and Naturel, I over-bought. I'd be happy with three long-term for both. For Siff, I'd go Ryan and Gwynn, then, controversially, Ichiro [or Brett, if I ever buy it]. For Naturel, it's easy: Rickey, Brett, Ryan. For both, there'd be cards that I miss, though.

I'll probably wind up with three for: Saladeen (Koufax, Mattingly FAP?, ?), Shore (Mays, Ryan, Brett), Beck (Ryan, Ripken, Brett or maybe Thomas), JK5 (Jackie, ?), Thiele (Thomas, Gibson, Brett?), Taylor (Ichiro, Ripken, Jeter), Efdot (Ichiro, Sandy, ?). Eventually I'll get more Mister Cartoon. 0 for everyone else.

I think I could easily expand beyond 3, but flexibility in terms of space and how I display provides value that hopefully makes up for what I would lose by missing a few others. It's tough because I could probably do mini-sets of 3 for almost everyone and create something I like, but then I'm back to an overcrowding issue. I think my inner torment with it all, and where to draw a line, speaks to how strong I felt this project was, and how important I found it to "participate in" personally as a consumer (and in this thread) during a difficult year.

Did Ermsy ever have a card with an on card player auto directly from topps?

Not picking on your post, it's the one that was up - but for me this would likely have been part of my collection, if he had painted the correct warplanes.

Griffey. I think Thiele is the only one that didn't have one?

This is my one gripe with it, but I surrealism-ed my way out of it to have it not let it impact how it impacts me.
