OOF! I haven't seen that one surface, but I'd bet they are all roughly the same.

I think it's a waste of money to try to crack this and sub again. It's probably a 9 for a reason, so I was hinting at doing some closer inspection to see if you can determine why it got a 9. I would say that I could probably see why by just looking at it, but using magnification helps with making a positive determination. If a corner is pressed/pinched a little bit, it may not be obvious except with how the light reflects off it, so an experienced grader may spot it quickly, and a collector may not see it until it's pointed out. That's just the way it is with grading. I had to review a lot of cards, submit a lot of cards, and see the results to find out what is the limit of mint vs. gem mint. And that line is not always fixed....some PSA subs get crushed with 9s and others get high gem rates, and that's part of the risk.

I just checked the pop report and the Yordan Orange refractor only has a 50% gem rate. Five 9s, five 10s. Ten graded total. I'd look for surface issues, lines or scratch marks, as a possible reason for the low gem rate. Gold and Green similar gem rates. Red...0% gem! Four graded, all 9's. Blue, Purple, Prism, Negative, Xfractor all around the 60's % range for gem rate. Pink about 80% gem, Refractor about 70%, base over 78% gem. The lower end stuff is more common, so more easily rejected by graders, while the more rare stuff is sent in if it's borderline "could gem?" That's my theory.

The gem rate for the more rare parallels suggests to me this entire release may have common issues preventing PSA-10s.

Inspecting surfaces under bright light and inspecting corners under magnification should let an experienced submitter determine if a card should gem or not. I think a lot of people either don't do this level of inspection, or are not willing to NOT submit a card when it won't gem, just because it's rare/valuable. It didn't used to matter when PSA-9s were still profitable, but it's bad process.
I would never crack open. I don't trust myself. I would just send in the PSA 9 slab and pay for them to regrade.

The method I send in the card should be irrelevant.

You are now officially competing with me on Yordan Jersey numbers. This after the black jersey number.

We are no longer friends. I will go broke buying all the rest of jersey numbers ever available to beat you.

Ugh, edit: BTW nice card.

Sending it in while still in the holder would be a "review", sending it in raw would fall under "grading". If you complete a grading submission and send a slabbed card...no idea what they would do.

I just sent in a PSA-7 for review...first time trying this. I think they may just take the fee and send it right back, but some people have gotten bumps before.

Thanks! Waited to find a decently centered one. Not as easy as it should be.

How come a 2020 BC red 9.5 went for 600 but a Silver pack Red psa 10 went for 300?

Seams like a great price for the silver pack!

Box topper vs. regular pack pull. Lots of deals this offseason.

The BC is just a better card. The silver pack is a mojo of a retro design parallel. The BC is a main set card that really pops the color. 2020 Bowman is probably my absolute favorite year of the set design, too - I have a Yordan red RC auto and it's my #1 favorite Yordan card I own.

If you were to rank the non-auto (mostly) red refractors /5, Bowman Chrome would probably be in fourth or fifth place (probably fifth, after the TC photo variation), where as the Silver Pack might not be Top 10.

This might not be the exact order (or complete list), but it probably goes something like this:

Topps Chrome
Topps Chrome Sapphire (or No. 1)
Topps Chrome “wave”
Finest Flashback
Topps Chrome photo variation
Bowman Chrome
Ben Baller
Stadium Club Chrome “shimmer”
A&G Chrome
Finest
Bowman Sterling
Stadium Club Chrome
Topps Chrome Black
Topps Chrome Sapphire Update RD
Silver Pack
Silver Pack Update Update
Topps Chrome 35th Anniversary
Gypsy Queen Chrome box-topper
Topps factory-set Chrome
Topps factory-set Chrome jersey
Topps Archives Red Foil

Great Ranking! A lot of subjectivity I assume but as a general ranking this really helps me.

I never thought of the Yordan Sliding Chrome photo variation as such a top card.

And love the small unintentional needle to BGeezy with Bowman Sterling just ahead of Stadium Club Chrome! He can take it!

Nice! Going thru my collection I don't think I own a red auto of any release.

Have you ever posted it before? Would love to see it!

Subjective, and more like general groupings. Maybe every three of four have roughly the same appeal and could be re-ordered… I don’t love the TC photo variation, but it is the same card number as the base and pulled from regular Topps Chrome packs. Maybe the factory-set reds should be ranked higher, but my experience with the other parallels suggests they’re definitely lower down on the list.

As for Sterling ahead of Stadium Chrome… One of them is actually RED, while the other just has a red speck somewhere in a far-off corner. On the other hand, I have the shimmer ranked higher.
