well, he hinted at a PR of 13k for Lasers. 13k*300 = 3.9M cards. ---> 1.3M cello packs ---> 108k Cello boxes.

Similarly for Mega boxes, you take whatever the estimated print run is, and multiply by 30, and that's how many boxes there are. so for example, if you think there's a PR of 10k red ice, that means there's 300k mega boxes (just the red ice kind). at current price of ~$150, that's a market cap of $45M. so if you're thinking you're going to scoop up every box out there and corner the market... it's not remotely possible, so don't go into debt over it.

One thing I haven't really heard discussed is the poor choice of image used for Zion once again. I think that explains alot of the fact that Ja is outselling Zion for alot of key parallels within this product.

This release could have been even stronger if Panini had an understanding of what is a suitable image for a base card and what has the strongest likelihood of becoming "iconic" based on eye appeal. A base card with a Luminance like image would have been massive for lifting this product and making it a staple brand within the hobby imo. They have completely botched opportunities to solidify certain products as staples within the hierarchy because of it. Zion's Optic Duck Face holding ball image? Terrible. Select Premier level buckled knees? No bueno.

If they would have used a nice action shot (one where he isn't staring off into space or in an awkward pose), like the Select Courtside shot or Chronicles Luminance ones, it would have really sealed the deal for this release. I still think it's a great product and they nailed the Ja, Coby White, Cam Reddish, and other images, but I can't help but be a little bit ticked off that they continue to choose these poor images for what could have been one of Zion's most unique rookies. Could have used an image from the NBA bubble or him making a highlight reel dunk.

I'm not trying to be a Panini hater at all. I love Panini products. I just think they need to step up their game and understand the impact that certain minor details can have on the long-term value of these products they are putting out. It's for everyone's benefit. Optic had so much momentum coming off of that 18-19 release which might go down as one of the best sets of the modern era, and then they sort of lost that momentum with the 19-20 Optic release.

They need to treat image selection as a curation process. It matters way more than they think.

I would counter ( although I agree that the Zion images are not wonderful ) that collectors care VERY little about the image, and VERY much and exclusively about the Player.

So...... based on my take, if Ja is outselling Zion, it has all to do with his production on the Court, popularity, and his future outlook as a potential Perennial All-Star, and nothing to do with who’s got the better mug

It's both. Zion playing well his cards go up. The image on the Morant definitely helped a bit with sales.

Various different things can help make a card sell for more, in the case of a new release, a sweet photo certainly helps. Some of the various color prizms in this release make great photos absolutely pop.

If Zion goes into orbit, his cards from HP will do great. That said, Morant and others will command a premium due to the image no question.

(never mind, looks like you found the B/S/T section already)

Just curious, what's the retail situation like in your part of Alaska?

It's definitely slower on ebay this week then the last 2 weeks. I've been following it like a hawk and the last 2 Thursdays if you saved your searches and had "nearly listed only" checked there were tons of sales going up every hour. So far today (and yesterday) I haven't notice nearly as much of influx as the last 2 weeks.

Obviously this could change as the day goes on...but so far not as much

I agree not as much supply to drive down prices, but we've also settled in to a bit of an equilibrium. mega postings still around 1k, and there are BINs being listed in the $140s without being immediately hit. sellers seeing $145-150 BINs not being hit are going to start undercutting each other, $130 offers should be achievable, or outright won. couple auctions ended this morning at sub $140 shipped

if you're under 35 and you want to understand why the hoops name feels special to some of us older guys, buy a junk wax hoops 1990 box and look at the names and then watch the last dance. I open these packs and it brings me back to the admiral rookie, the sam mitchell wolves, the jon koncack hawks. I know this is all about $ now but back in the day before internet, and when not everyone had espn and espn half the day was weight lifting this was how you saw the game aside from vhs tapes.

last year I got an ed pickney hoops card signed and the 9 year old me would've loved it. Hopefully you guys will stick around the stuff long enough one day to have a similar experience.

Target stocked too. Maybe 6 or 7 blasters and 5 hangers. No cellos or megas.

This Target officially keeping em behind customer service now and limiting to 1/per purchase

All good points here but I don't think Kobe's Chrome or Lebron's Chrome are really all that great looking either. The Iverson, Marbury & Antoine Walker RCs all had much better looking images. I think the fact they were all in-game action cards really helped TC. This set actually contains most everything people were nitpicking did not exist in Prizm/Optic.

Took a few years for Chrome to come out ahead in the Finest vs Chrome conversation. It'll most likely take a few years here also. Should be fun to follow.

Figured it wouldn't hurt to post here since there seems to be a lot of people ripping the box set packs in this thread. Been keeping my eye on ebay for a Lillard black for a couple weeks with no luck.

Retail in AK is the same as everywhere else I think. There are people who follow the distributors around and clean everything out as soon as it's stocked. I think Target started limiting card purchases but I gave up on checking retail for cards, it's a waste of time unless you get extremely lucky or are willing to be a creep and stalk the distributors.
