People act like Boston did Devers wrong bringing in a replacement at 3B. Bregman is an elite defender. In 10 years he has 98 errors, whereas Devers has 141 in 8 years. Bregman was a great SS in college hut switched when he was drafted. Bregman also has 2 GG. It was a business decision and these players that can’t deal with it need to suck it up. Devers is a pro athlete. He should be able to convert and learn the position. Looking at him though he seems like he’s too interested in eating than helping his team.

“(He’s) a natural,” said manager Alex Cora. “He knows how to cancel the noise.”

Yesterday.

He also complained last year that the team needed to bring in more talent. They did.

It was funny watching the game today thinking how one of the best catchers of this generation was playing 1B today for the Royals.

Damn, if this is him playing pissed, they need to ask him to play OF next.

Exactly. Ripken moved to 3B. Lots of players move. Altuve moved to OF because it was best for the team. Biggio did the same years ago. Versatility is asset many greats possess. Harper moved recently. Devers was upset and I get it, but he can’t really think he’s a good 3B.

Also this should have stayed in the clubhouse. Red Sox are being lame.
Well said. I don't see a right or wrong side in this dispute -- both sides have valid points.

Right! Give me 1% of that contract and I will sell beer and sweep the dugout steps if they need me to.

The difference is his contract is guaranteed.

Were the Red Sox saying go out there tomorrow and start playing 1st base or start learning to do it soon? That feels like a big difference for the guys defending the $300 million awful 3rd basemen.

Everyone on the roster should do what's best for the team. That said, I'd love to know what they said to him when they signed him long-term. Did they guarantee he would be their thirdbaseman? If he knew he wasn't going to be playing third and made a dh, would he have signed with them?

Ken Rosenthal put out a column on Raffy vs The Brass that was embarrassingly sycophantic and could’ve been written by Devers’ agent (who, given that the piece is loaded with “this is how Devers feels about x/y/z, was probably Rosenthal’s primary background source). To all the people acting like the Red Sox asking him to play first base in a pinch is so unfair or ridiculous, my only response is to point to a player the Sox **should** have signed with that 313 mil, who in the same situation wouldn’t even have to be asked to cover basically any non pitcher position, he’d volunteer….

As for all the nonsense, put me in the camp of:

The team handled this badly, from Bregman's courtship to now.

Devers handled this badly, from airing his s**t in public to not thinking to himself "a leader would grab his glove and start taking reps at 1st"

Just don't think you can blame one side and not the other.

Let's hope Raffy dusts off the mitt. Because I love seeing this:

Tallguy1991 - sure, no doubt talking about Betts.

DetroitTN - wasn't sure if they saw the gif and thought that was Devers.

The skinniest Raffy has been in the bigs.

Assume the pic is from 2017.

(I do love this card.)

Devers has turned into a prima donna over this. Nothing wrong with talking with the GM, manager etc. Taking it public makes him look like a baby. Doing it while sucking this year makes him look like an idiot. I say keep him, bench him and pay his contract. Hopefully Boston makes the playoffs and he sits. Would be awesome if they made the WS and left him off the roster. I mean hey, it’s about the money right? They don’t play for the love of the game.

This is not reality:

There is a shortage of electricians in the US:
https://www.indeed.com/career-advice...labor-shortage

Devers has unique, specialized, high-level skills. Since 2018, he's 8th in home runs, 12th in OPS (minimum 2,000 PA, 164 players), and 14th in fWAR. He's still only 28 years old.

You can't easily replace a worker like that.

Thats’s kind of the point. Boston didn’t sign Bregman to sit Devers. They didn’t say Devers can’t hit, they simply made a business decision and got a Gold Glove, elite defender at 3B. If Devers can’t figure out that he’s a liability at 3B (Most Errors - 141 - among ACTIVE players he’s 6th) then he’s a moron. I could understand if they told him he was out of the lineup.
