If the anti-mask crowd is to be trusted, then that would mean that all of the pro-mask people are spreading disinformation. I wonder...are all of these specialists, the Surgeon General, the CDC people, countless medical professionals and the like outright lying, or are they ridiculously bad at their profession, or ???

Is this some grand conspiracy to sell masks at the expense of a worldwide recession?

Are these people stupid?

Do these people not have the information available to them that anti-maskers have? Are they somehow not in the loop?

Are all of these people evil?

How would this massive failure of basically an entire profession (minus the fringe) be explained? What would cause the overwhelming majority of experts on the subject to provide false recommendations to humanity?

California's top doctors are out at private dinner parties, indoors, maskless w/ the governor. These same people are telling you not to have Thanksgiving w/ your family.

How do you reconcile the two?

We may not know the answers, it could be that they just think they are above their own rules... but the problem with it regardless of the answer is it is wrong for them and others to demonize those of us that may choose to have a Thanksgiving get together, etc. and then go out and do just what they want. It causes people to not care anymore.

And the argument that they are tested regularly so they are ok, doesn't stick with me either. What about asymptomatic people?

Sure, obviously these particular clowns are not doing what they're telling others to do and that's a problem. No argument there from me.

I guess where I'm stuck is on the why of it.

I also wouldn't say these clowns are representative of the medical community as a whole, but that doesn't excuse their behavior. It simply means that perhaps the behavior of a few bad apples doesn't invalidate the concept of masks as a whole.

Yet, there they are, being jerks about it all. I don't get it.

What purpose is served by a physician making bogus recommendations to humanity?

I think many people look at the hypocrisy and are confused. As you noted the "do as I say, not as I do" line is one my mother gave me often about smoking, while she inhaled a pack a day. But what if they're not lying? What if they believe you shouldn't be around your family, they shouldn't be around theirs and they're simply too weak to follow the rules they've set for the masses?

What if ... they're not experts? Just people like you and me w/ largely the same information as you and me, only in their case, in a position to wield a bit of power against you and yours.

An expert is not just someone who has the background in a certain area, but someone who displays that knowledge to create solutions. For example, an expert teacher in a field is not someone w/ 10 degrees but someone whose students excel in the areas that are being taught. An expert mechanic is not someone w/ degrees in physics and backgrounds in designing automobiles but someone who can fix anything you bring them.

I ask you; what level of expertise has anyone in this pandemic shown? Where are the results, where are the solutions?

All excellent points.

I hadn't considered that many of these people may simply be educated idiots that fell into a position they're unprepared to execute. I suppose that's likely.

But that still leaves a whole lot of qualified professionals in the medical field that suggest mask wearing is beneficial. Even if we dismiss the underqualified charlatans, the question still stands for the rest of the medical community.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that politicians screwed this up, not doctors. Politicians are the ones that have an incentive to push one narrative or the other. Medical professionals gain or lose based on their credibility. It's hard to imagine a doctor sacrificing his reputation in exchange for...well, nothing.

How do we measure the results of people like Fauci? Against what can we measure? We can guess as to how different courses of actions would've resulted (I'd go so far as to say educated guessing), but we will never know anything more than guesstimates. Moreover, Fauci and others have been handcuffed by politicians. Their advice has been implemented half-heartedly at best, and completely disregarded at times.

The Newsom thing shows how big of a joke this all is. One of the biggest blowhards during the pandemic can’t even come close to following his own rules. Does something that you and I have not done in eight months because we’ve tried our best to follow the rules. May not be perfect all the time, but we’ve at least tried. And to do this while cases are surging, schools and businesses are shutting down, curfews are being enacted, and new utterly ridiculous PPE requirements are being made in hospitals. What an idiot. I hate to see a virus become political. I’m “recovered” from Covid but still feeling effects. It’s goes something like this:

When I lay down at night my legs are tingling. Talked to my doctor and he said it’s normal fluid moving through your body at the end of the day but my nerves are sensitive so I can feel it. Well this leads to not being able to get comfortable and fall asleep.

Instead of my normal bedtime of 8 and wake up at 330 or 4 to workout I’m getting to sleep around 10 and waking up a few times a night. Waking up at 5 and feeling tired. Instead of a workout I’m down to a mile walk or half an hour at the gym (closed again).

Now I’m tired all day with a physical job so I’m only scheduling one job a day. Get home, exhausted and try to nap (still can’t get comfortable) or drink coffee to stay awake. Now I’m home tired and admittedly cranky so I don’t have the patience I had with my wild 4 year old daughter.

The part that gets to me is I was careful, wore a mask and did my best to social distance but I do service calls and go into other people’s homes. I cannot go in and demand they wear a mask and I know many people think masks are ridiculous anyway. Anyway, sorry for the rant I’ve just been so irritated as of late
