Yeah, I am going to try to call today...fingers crossed. I completely understand centering might not be perfect or a soft corner when receiving a redemption but this seems return worthy.

Topps redemption only guarantee a near mint-mint or better. That means if you think it would grade a PSA 8, you're out of luck. I do not agree with the standards, but it is what it is. The only thing you have a great chance at are wrinkles in cards (auto-PSA 4) or a crushed corner type of defect.

A scratch or groove like that might knock it down below an 8 though.

finger nail marks or indents generally get an 8. unless it extends to the other side of the card. Depends, but I'm pretty certain it's a 7 at worst.

I tried and didnt get in touch with anyone via customer service...no surprise there. I am going to send the ROA and redemption card priority with a letter hoping that someone at the redemption office is having a good day, reads my pity party and can help me out. I read through the redemption Q&A online and it states if the card arrives damaged (not sure if this classifies) you can get in touch within 5 business days and send it back. Again, might not be enough to get another but no harm in trying. Not trying to sell anytime soon.

Topps has told me in the past their quality control policy is NM-MT or better (i.e. an 8). I had to get the card in question graded before they replaced it...it came back as a 6 (they had said it looked like it passed as an 8 or better) and then they suggested I submit it for replacement, which they did.

Thanks for the info, that definitely helps! Seems crazy to have to submit it to grade then wait (for god know how long) and in between more damage could happen between the redeemer, grading company, shipping. Not that I would do it but someone could damage the card further if its borderline to try to drop the grade for a reissue. I am just hoping Topps helps me out with this one. Again, thanks for the insight.

In my experience, Topps told me they guarantee an 8 or better. I received a Griffey Jr. Buyback Auto through a redemption, and it came with a crease in it. I sent it back, and they claimed it was still an 8 grade. After a lot of arguing back and forth, they basically told me there was nothing they were going to do as they truly believed the card was an 8. It was absolutely nuts of them to claim a card with a big crease would grade that high. Anyways, long story short, I posted a complaint on the Better Business Bureau Website, and low and behold a day later Topps responded that they were going to replace the card with one that was not damaged. Had the new card within a week after that.

Moral of the story - don’t take crap from Topps! That Tatis is not acceptable and they need to make things right!

I am not buying high end Tatis....I am buying mainly low end raw with a rare low end PSA9 or 10.

While I get the point you're trying to make. You can't compare a 28 and 26 year old to a 21 year old. 26 & 28 in todays hobby is a senior citizen.

The point you're making is correct that Tatis has a lot of work to do to maintain these prices. However, Correa and Machado in their prime hype time wouldn't be far off Tatis Jr's current prices in todays market.

He was a solid buy in Oct-March, but not since the explosion. Prices will correct some just like Acuna and Soto have. Miss the days of Blue ref auto gems being $1500.

Xmas isnt that far away, so id say 10-20% since season is now over....If you can wait about 3-4 months, and buy then- at that point prob 30% under todays prices imho

I can wait! I have learned a lot since starting collecting since Covid. They say a fool and his money are soon parted...trying not to be the fool any more and be patient. Regret a few larger purchases during the peak. Hoping there will be many more peaks in the future.

Last couple winters prices bottomed out in mid Dec-ish. By mid Jan they had rebounded quickly to mid season pricing.
If I had to guess I'd say the lowest prices will be between now(esp if there are a lot of auctions going) and Xmas day. January and especially February may be a little late.
Happy offseason bargain hunting to all!

In addition to the above great advice, some of the bottoming out of prices also depends on the type of card. If the card is common/lower end, yes, there may be a bigger drop due to the supply available and potential sell down by multiple sellers. For low numbered parallels/higher end cards though, those cards you probably will not see a drop in price as Tatis is the youngest superstar in the making in MLB and holders of his high end stuff probably want to see what he can do in a full MLB season.

So conversely, if tatis career trajectory mimics those of Correa and Machado, will his cards drop to $200 at the age of 26?

Yeah, any high-end for PC, I was picking up what I can when I can afford it because who knows if it'll pop up again and waiting probably won't make much difference in price.

I will be looking to refill a bit on stuff like TC base/refractors assuming they drop some more.

I’m starting to think topps and panini are reading this thread and making it a point to keep Tatis horizontal
