The damage is already done. That's the point. How many people do you really think venture that far past the headline, past the first paragraph, to the part that shows the first 2 to be a bunch of crap?

It's how we can have such crazed responses earlier about something like a Muslin ban, which is actually something that only affects 10-12% of the Muslim population. Things get framed a certain way to create a certain narrative.

I'm glad you posted the bolded. Unverifiable hearsay has been the basis for plenty of stories. How many anti-Trump stories have been based off of "Someone close to Trump behind closed doors has said.." ?

Do you mean like the nonsensical lawsuit Trump's team filed in Michigan...the one Judge Cynthia Stevens threw out saying it was "inadmissible hearsay within hearsay"? That was the first time I have ever known a Judge to shake her head and say "c'mon".

Going back to this..

Would be curious to see some kind of experiment done where people are shown a headline, then later told information showing that headline to be off base. Then see if the views end up changing.

I hear ya. I think most people here dislike Whitmer.

Covid has exposed just how bad so many of these Governors are.

I think Dega was the one that mentioned it earlier, but I really do feel especially bad for the kids. School and everything that goes along with it only happens once (unless you're Billy Madison).

What you're saying is that no media stories can ever technically be lies. If the story says "X Happened", and the later edit is "This Story That We Said Happened Didn't Actually Happen", no lying. It can always be pinned to someone else (an official, our source, whoever).
