Yep the program is heading for some dark days. I think it's mostly because they can't afford the $25 million buyout but after 2026 it's not much better with a buyout over $19 million. After 2027 it's almost $13 million and does not fall to under $7 million until after 2028.

WI could be stuck with Fickell for several more years just because they don't have the funds to buy him and his staff out.

I just figured it was because they didnt want to complete with all the other P5 schools looking for a coach and then some

I thought schools were rich with funds from B1G tv deals. Nebraska has been paying buyouts since Pelini and that’s three coaches. Nebraska is a small population state too. Wisconsin has an academic reputation so it should theoretically have a lot of rich donors. I must be missing something. Wouldn’t be the first time.

There is actually lot of rich alumni they just don't donate to the NIL. Case in point McAfee had on JJ Watt and asked him if he was going to donate to the program and Watt dodged the question.

It just seems odd to me. It’s going to take big bucks to compete for players and if you don’t have that, a school is going to have little chance for success. It’s a new world, only out in the open.

Wisconsin gets plenty of revenue ($150M) but also seems to have high expenses ($148M) for some reason as of 2024. 12 of the 16 B1G schools have more revenue than expenses (USC and Northwestern are not listed on the report link below)

https://sportsdata.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances

Sure, a buyout will cost them millions, but the longer Fickell sticks around, the more attendance will drop, the more donations will drop, and the small positive they have for revenue vs expenses will quickly turn negative. They are in a really bad spot. McIntosh and Fickell both need the boot.

The Badgers get the upset win over Washington. Their 1st win of the season in the Big Ten & their 1st win ever vs Washington.

Crazy thing is the leading passer for WI was the punter with a 24 yard pass

Huskers win at UCLA with Lateef at qb. He looked well prepared and handled the offense adequately. Emmett Johnson has turned into a beast. Still don’t think Huskers will be favored in last two games, but they will have an opportunity to finish well. The Achilles heel is definitely still the run defense and line play. We’ll see what happens.

He should charge them a dollar annually for his services. If I understand it correctly, all his Michigan State salary (if he gets the job) will do is reduce the amount LSU owes him (that they are trying to weasel out of).

I still find it amazing that Mel Tucker remains on the lam. Gotta hand it to him - that is an impressive feat in today's world.

Hope JV07 is OK.

Oh, wait - that's right - he "doesn't care" about Spartan football (or something like that).

The two of you are so obsessed with me and I have no idea why. Who cares about that? The only ironic part is they sanction a team that won 4 games that year and not the team that cheated to win a National championship.

I'm doing great though, just finished a 4 mile run. Way more important things in life than Sports!
