Today I sold my raw Heritage Action RC for $135 on COMC. Bought it on there for $41 in December. Wow.

While I'm happy for you, after seeing this if I ever get less than 9.5 on corners I will riot. With how picky I am, there's no way I would send a card with white on both corners and expect a 9.5 overall.

Is the new RC fad the death knell for Bowman? The 2014 Bowman Kris Bryant chrome has pretty much stayed at $8-$10 since Bryant won the ROY.

Anybody think the Bryant Heritage '51 rookie autos will blow up as well? It's a nice set that I don't think gets enough love.

I hope so. Bought one at what I thought was a great price, and will be heading to PSA soon.

^^^ that is the reason BGS is a joke when it comes to grading. PSA has always been king of vintage and now PSA is the dominant standard for modern too. BGS hands out 9.5s out like candy. No standards whatsoever.

PSA 9 outsells BGS 9 seven days a week and twice on Sunday. For any card. In any sport. And now PSA 9 is quickly approaching and surpassing BGS 9.5 prices as well. For the reason that BGS grading is a joke and their standards are so low.

Arrived Saturday, entered into their system Monday, graded today and they are shipping it out today, will arrive at my front door Friday.

I sent it Priority last Thursday, so 8 total days from my house back to my house.

Expensive but for cards $500+ I can totally see the value in doing it this way.

Was thinking that since its limited and has the Heritage name that it would be next but who knows. I got one coming in and am happy with it as his other rookie Heritage autos are out of my range or hard to find.

You need to tap the brakes.

The only flaw on the Trout I sent in was some white showing in the bottom right corner. Surface was clean, edges were sharp, top 2 corners were sharp. Bottom left corner wasn't what I would consider a "10" but was pretty close, would call that a 9.5 corner. Bottom right corner was the only flaw on the card that I would have said "well that's not better than a 9.5 subgrade."

So I expected a certain result going into it (at least a BGS 9) and the corner grade is the only difference between a BGS 9 and a BGS 9.5 - if they had considered the corners an 8.5, I would have had a silver label.

I have sent in plenty of cards and been destroyed by random low surface grades on 20-day subs, despite cleaning surfaces of every card I've ever sent in.

Grading is subjective no matter who you send it to - SGC, BGS, PSA, they all have different HUMAN graders and they all have different takes on the different aspects of a card's grade.

If you want higher grades, pay them more money, simple as that. That's what I've learned over the years when it comes to sending cards in - they are less likely to punish you for a slight flaw when you paid $60, and more likely to send your card to the run-of-the-mill graders who might be in a bad mood if you pay $9.

This dynamic exists at PSA too.

They don't get the bad rap that BGS does, but go look at some of the PSA 10s floating around from 4 Sharp Corners or any of the bulk submission guys. Some of those cards should no way in any universe be a PSA 10, yet they are. They also don't punish your card for refractor lines, while BGS will hit you with an 8 for surface if they see one.

There is no objective grading system. It is 100% subjective.

You should go ahead and admit this and face facts.

The question is how do you deal with it? I used to get mad at grading and buy raw cards and put them in one-touch holders. Then in 2014 I sent in so many AJ McCarron NT RPAs and got so many 8-8.5 surface grades that I about lost my mind, went on BGS-bashing rampages myself.

But I guess I've mellowed in my old age (3 years later) and I accept that cracking out cards and resubbing them on 2-days will almost always yield a better grade. So if there's a $500+ card that I want, and it's a BGS 9 with a couple good subs, I'm not afraid to buy it and crack it out and send it in now. Even if it takes a couple tries.

And I could do the same thing with PSA if I wanted to, with the same result.

At the end of the day I like the BGS 9.5 gold labels and the BGS holders.

And I accept that all grading is subjective.
