I think if Means is healthy you win the division again next year. Grayson will be good, and the Rays won't have McClanahan.

Sorry O’s fans.

Tough end to your best season in decades, but sleep well. With your young core, you will be in contention for the next 10+ years.

A healthy Means + DL Hall + Holliday will be a nice boost. Future is bright.

It will be an interesting off-season. Do the O’s spend money (or trade) to try to land a top starting pitcher or just settle on adding a back of rotation guy and hope Bradish, Grayson, Means all step up and are healthy for full season?

Closer is also a question mark. The Orioles won a ton of one-run games and Bautista was key to that early in the season. We will def miss having him for all of 2024.

As far as position players, the Orioles have an embarrassment of riches. It will be interesting to see who gets crowded out. Also 2024 is Santander’s last year under contract so that will be something the O’s have to consider whether or not they want to pay him. I doubt he is with the O’s beyond next year. Could be a weird 2024 trade deadline with both Santander and Means in last years of contracts.

I still haven’t received an invoice to renew my season ticket plan. How high do you think Angelos jacks up ticket prices?

Maybe waiting for a notable signing before sending out higher invoices?

I think you’ll be ok, and just receive a minimal bump. He’ll NEVER re-sign any of our young, world-class talent, so you shouldn’t be facing any pending large salaries to offset

The Orioles ownership moto: devolop from the Farm System fantastic generational talent, and make sure another Team gets them during their prime, to avoid paying ‘the big contract’
Wash / rinse / repeat

This helps make the Team ALWAYS profitable year after year ( tV contracts, etc etc ) , and NEVER care about Winning…. Winning is a complete fluke / not the goal

Ownership of the O’s is funded by the Country’s top asbestos litigation firm - the Team is just a side hustle for the Angelos Family….as soon as it isn’t profitable, they’ll sell with no remorse or emotional investment. Let’s just say there will be no statue of anyone in the Angelos Family ever erected here in Baltimore …unless it’s in front of their law office, and made of recycled asbestos and court documents…..

That was a fast move! I’m not sure how this week could get ant better for the Os

DL Hall should be a good long term MLB pitcher. But nice to see the Os upgrade the rotation from a position of strength (infield). Burnes should be a veteran clubhouse addition for a relatively young rotation. Like the trade for Os, and hope Ortiz and Hall get a good shot with Milwaukee.

It looks like the Orioles solidly addressed both of my offseason concerns. If Means can stay healthy for the full season, I think we have an amazing starting rotation now with the addition of Burnes. I fully expect Rodriguez to be the pitcher he was the last half of the season.

Should be a fun year. To be honest, the team actually has been a lot of fun to watch since the 2nd half of 2022 when they started playing well. It’s just now we enter the season expecting them to win the division… which is kind of weird given how lousy the team was a few seasons ago.

I don’t see us having a letdown season like in 2013 but I suppose anything can happen.

We don’t really talk about cards in this thread but what are your top Orioles cards? This is one of my faves… such an iconic card!

Thoughts on whether adding another SP (such as Cease) still makes some sense, or are Os better off as is?

If Cease is added the O's are the number one team in baseball, I would think with only the Braves slightly behind

I would love it, but whether it makes sense depends wholly on the asking price. They have a lot of chips that most would like to see unplayed.

We have a great rotation already by adding Corbin. Why Cease?

White Sox is asking for too much in return for Cease. Not worth the time or hassle.

Love this rotation:
Corbin
Bradish
Rodriguez
Means
Kremer

We have depth in Irvin, Zimmerman, Wells and more. I’m very happy as it is now.

Agreed - don't think we need Cease currently. Maybe check in again on him before the trade deadline. Would like to see them bolster the pen slightly.

I agree Os seem to be in a strong position. Wells has shown some flashes of ace material. To me, tough call on whether to pursue Cease.

Os have an embarrassment of riches in position player surplus, and perhaps an argument to be made for keeping him from another team we might meet in the playoffs. But...I do like our team as is.

The offense is going to be fun and, for the first time in a while, the Os wait-until-the-end-of-offseason-to-make-a-move strategy paid off with Burnes.

Quiet thread lately!

So we are a week away… how are you guys feeling about the 2024 O’s?

I’m officially “cautiously optimistic”, but for some weird reason my gut feeling is a 2013-like regression is possible. For one, I fear we might really miss Bautista. Yeah he was out the 2nd half last year, but on the road to 101 wins he helped us win so many of the first half one-run games last year. Also our starting pitching is questionable if Bradish/Means have lingering health issues. We will see.

What do you guys think?

Jackson Holliday optioned to the minors. I am glad about this... No rush to start him out of the gate.

Burnes
Rodriguez
Wells
Kremer
Irvin
That's our rotation. I am confident with Kimbrel along with Cano. We can always have Wells back to the closer as a part time if any falters. Means should be back in a month or so...

I really think Cowser is going to have an amazing season. Not happy about McKenna - not a fan of him at all...

Mateo has one more chance to prove. If he struggles like most of last season, he will be either traded (probably not) or released in favor of Holliday.

They have the young talent to trade for a pitcher at the deadline too. Just a question of who might be available.

Best lineup(along w Texas) in the league IMO and studs ready for jobs in the wings.
Proven #1 starter in Burnes

Rotation health and GRod’s development then bullpen performance will determine the range from competitive to dominant it looks like. I really like Wells ability to induce grounders/ soft contact and be efficient. If Means and or Bradish come back effective and the bullpen is decent they have the ability to win it all I think.
