July ended up at .301 BA, 4 HRs, 7 SBs, .852 OPS.
Solid month, but I feel like we're all here waiting on the big breakout all season, and it just hasn't come yet. Here's hoping for a monster finish!

BWJ is going to wind up having one of the scorned and bitched about 6-7 win seasons for a 25 year old in the history of MLB.

It’s just you. All the other Bobby thread regulars are having a great time and having fun collecting his cards.

I haven't looked at WAR in a while, but I do like it pretty well as a measure. So my question would be, how many are above him on the year? And of those, how many are younger than him? Another good thought exercise.. did those currently above him have a higher WAR at Bobby's current age? That feels like a good chill-pill barometer.

Interesting. I guess I'm the only one who likes when the guys I root for either out perform or give themselves an opportunity to do something in the post-season.

Trout: 54.6 Soto: 41.5 Betts: 35.0 Machado: 34.4 Harper: 27.7 Lindor: 26.8 Acuna: 26.2 Jose Ramirez: 22.1 Witt (projected): 21.1 Witt (current) 19.3 Here ya go. Here's how he compares to a number of baseball's biggest stars through his age 25 season. It was posted a few pages ago. Right now he's 9th in WAR, with 2 younger guys in front. Julio and PCA. Julio is a bit younger with more. PCA is almost 2 years younger and quite a bit behind. He's need 2 years in a row averages about 6 WAR to catch up. Witt's having a good season and further establishing himself as a a star in the league. But I think anybody here would be hard pressed to say he surpassed expectations this season without a hot finish or a playoff run. Now from a collector's standpoint, this is probably creating a much better opportunity to pick up some great cards at a good price.

I get both sides of this discussion. As one who watches or listens to most of the Royals' games, there are occasions this season where he just doesn't seem to deliver like he did last year. And the stats bear that out a bit. Now, for perspective, there is a very strong argument that Witt's 2024 season was the best season in franchise history. Ever. Even including Brett in 1980. So, to expect that level of performance each year just isn't realistic. All that said, watching him play is an absolute joy and on par with the fun I had watching Brett as a kid and the Royals 2014-2015 run. And yeah, I would love for him to repeat his July 2024 over the next month or so and carry the Royals on his back to the playoffs...

I took him no.2 overall in Fantasy so no, not impressed with the return.
From a collector standpoint, well if I was in the market I could probably get at discount from a few months ago, nothing to complain about there. And if you’re just looking to make a buck or 2 then it sucks to be you. |

Bobby Witt is 2nd in two year fWAR among batters behind Aaron Judge and the only other guy close is Ohtani.
Bobby Witt is 2nd in three year fWAR among batters behind Aaron Judge and the only other guy close is Ohtani. Bobby Witt is 3rd in four year fWAR among batters behind only Judge and Ohtani even though he made his major league debut in the first of those four years. Those are all somewhat less true in the bWAR system because it doesn't care as much about defense...but if people are dumping Bobby Witt cards this year, I'm not exactly sure who they anticipate buying. Even in bWAR he's going to have a 21 win three year peak with zero signs of slowing down. If he repeats this season three more times the rest of his career would have to be train wreck for him to not make the Hall. It compares very favorably to the peak of guys like Barry Larkin, Scott Rolen, and even Adrian Beltre. All he would need to do is be an above average starter with some ASG years into his mid 30s. Only guy in his 20s is on a better HOF track than BWJ, and this season has made that more certain instead of less. He has the upshot of being an actual premium SS defender, versus Gunnar, who is going to wind up as a 3B in the next few years. |

Thank you for bringing up fWAR, which is superior to bWAR in my opinion for position players, as bWAR uses DRS for defensive metrics, which is hot garbage vs. fWAR’s UZR. And Witt has 24.0 fWAR currently with a 10.5 win season last year. 7-8 sustained wins is beyond incredible, it’s sure fire first ballot 95%+ HOF vote material with one or two MVP’s scattered throughout. I’m thrilled with this season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I am too, honestly. Last season is likely to be the best season of his career, and that's okay. If it isn't, he's going to be a pantheon player.

I tend to agree with you and I’m also fine with that, but he does still technically have a significant portion if not all of his absolute prime ahead of him, so I’m hopeful he’s got one more 9.5-10.5 win season and a MVP in him ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Bobby had some back tightness which kept him out of yesterday's game. He had it the night before but talked his way into the lineup. Since today is an off day for travel, Q decided to rest him during yesterday's day game.

Recent pickup, I really think this might be my favorite Bobby card to date, it’s just a beautiful card imo. The most valuable or important? Not a chance, but it’s damn nice to look at.

There’s a purple that’s been sitting out there for weeks now, guys! Is the Purple Pump over? No one wants to wildly over pay for them anymore?
