You can tie them to any bank account as a debit card, multiple bank accounts = multiple debit cards. I'm sure that's what they're doing here.

People are going to complain about everything. The only way for bots to go away to a significant degree is to legislate them into a corner. Otherwise online is their world. I’m just glad they are moving product back into stores. Nothing is perfect but options are better.

I personally disagree with your point. I'm sure Target has the ability to limit Redcards to more than one social. Maybe they'll do it at some point.

nope, each social can only be used to create one card, regardless how many bank accounts you have.

once you get a red card however you can add up to 5 authorized users to the card (idea would be husband, wife, daughter, son etc.). they then get their own card.

the kicker is each card gets a unique number and therefore is eligible for its own limit. people are just creating fake names and getting all the authorized user cards and using them with dummy target accounts. ridiculous the limit doesn’t apply to the whole set of cards as a household limit.

So when people were saying it would be the fix two months ago, they actually meant it wouldn’t be the fix?

Most see now that it isn’t. That wasn’t my point. The point is there wasn’t one then and there isn’t one now beyond legislation.

There are 2 solutions that could work. You have to pick up in store only is one.

The second today was the perfect storm if Target really cares. They know the time the boxes went live. Thousands of orders were made before the product went live today on Select blasters and mega boxes. Obviously every single one of those was a bot order. Cancel every one of those orders, ban the RedCard and the accounts from making card purchases. In the past Target has banned members/RedCards, some from this forum, from buying sports cards for no reason.

Household limit seems like it would be a better fix. If all these botbois are getting everything shipped to the same address, then that kinda defeats the purpose of a Red Card exclusive with quantity limits. Although I’m sure they would just start getting separate orders delivered to their friends’ houses or something like that.

How would banning bots RedCards not work? Lol if their cards are banned for RedCard exclusives they can't buy a RedCard exclusive.

they have to stop the sale, just requiring them to pick it up in store won’t work, they’ll get around that.

I have to say for all his rantings, charm used to say that they know when page went live and they could cancel orders.

i’m not an expert with targets website, but the one i work for, which is pretty large, doesn’t quite have an “on/off” switch that’s instantaneous. we trigger a product to go live and some processes kick off and eventually it shows up as in stock. I imagine bots are exploiting that window of time where they’ve turned the product on, but systems have not yet made it show in stock on the front end. it’s probably hard to know when exactly a human order could feasibly come in.

they will already cancel orders to the same address, botters “jig” the address so it doesn’t read exactly the same and isn’t detected. sw vs southwest for example.

I'd rather they stay online.
No adult with a job has time to sit in Target all day.
They should make it pickup at store only or perhaps add on only and you have to buy other things or limit to less and don't provide free shipping on cards.
Cancel those red cards that use the same address for multiple orders with small changes. Ban those social security numbers from ever making another red card. Not that hard really.

Not going to ban thousands and thousands of red cards. Can’t do pickup bc of quantity/stock numbers. Get better protection, or just be like Walmart. If bots continue to pickup backend target will be worse than Walmart in a month.

I don’t know how hard this would be for Target to implement, but I know there are lots of government websites that force you to select the official USPS address when you enter it. So if you enter your address as “123 Main Street, Apt. 456” it would respond with “do you mean 123 MAIN ST APT 456?” If they forced everyone to select the one official address for your location, then they wouldn’t be able to get around it with abbreviations and things like that.

I’m not sure how you ever completely stop automated checkout, which is all a bot is. The key is limiting the damage from numerous checkouts. And of course closing the back door they come in. one guy i talked to today got 35 megas. 7 red cards.

I honestly don’t think it’s that far fetched though to think that they would say for every red card and all it’s associated authorized users you get treated as one card with a household limit when it comes to trading cards.

they could easily do it, it’s just a matter of if they want to. the card can be used for any other purchases, they don’t need to be banned. I would say we all probably agree that one person using 6 associated red cards goes beyond the spirit of the rule.

that would probably help. i think somehow they are also able to order to a certain address, but once the order goes through and gets past the security, then change the ship to address to the one they actually want.

Literally for every action there is a counter action. the one that makes the most sense to me though is tying purchases to unique ss numbers. if you can get relatives to let you use their ss, more power to you, but it slows the multiple orders down. you also move into a legal area when you start fooling around with ss numbers.
