Tor was the one team that walked Judge more than anyone else yet it seems like when they play the Dodgers they forget they can do that to Ohtani. They eventually did but only after they blew the game there.

Pretty sure they learned their lesson, but it may already be too late.
I'll be shocked if they give Ohtani anything remotely close to hit rest of series unless they are winning in a blowout or the situation doesn't let them pitch around him (bases loaded, bottom 9th and tie game for example). I could totally see them going full Bonds on Ohtani and walking him with the bases loaded if they had at least a 2-run lead.

I tried staying until the end, got to the 17th and at some point I was out. Woke up a few hours later and they won’t show what happened. They just keep showing the highlight from last year’s Freddie Freeman walk off HR.

I haven't watched any games since the Rangers' last game. Until last night. And I didn't realize they did away with the ghost runner for the World Series. I think they need to bring it back. That would've stopped this 18-inning stuff. It's not good for players. Not good for fans (hello 3 a.m. finish), not good for TV viewers. I just think they need to do something to change the length of games. Even my local TV station had a poll this morning about whether changes need to be made.

I'd walk him every time. One of the best hitters in baseball today. Make someone else beat you. And Freeman did last night. But both teams wasted so much pitching in doing so. Depleted their pens for the rest of the series.

The ghost runner stopped when the playoffs started, not when the World Series started.

It makes sense for the regular season.

It does not make sense for the postseason.

Do they pitch to him?

Toronto’s IBB will be their downfall.

Its better than having him hit HRs. And if he tries to steal second each time go for it, the risk he injuries himself sliding is non zero. When he got thrown out last night the way he jumped up to try to avoid the tag very easily could have resulted in a muscle pull.

I would say yes unless in a high leverage spot. Last start heroics aside, he usually doesn't hit as well when it is a game he pitches in.

Both teams are going to need some length out of their starters tonight obviously. I think they will both get a long leash. I would try to work the count as hitters and force some tough decisions on the managers.

Honestly, if the Jays had IBB'd Ohtani the first 4 times, they very well might have won the game last night in 9.

We see this type of coaching stubbornness in the nfl all the time. They will get burned.

It may work against the Yankees, but the dodgers have real firepower hitting behind Ohtani.

The only way the jays are going to get out of this mess is to get the Dodgers respect and prove they can get their top hitter out.

The Jays with their IBB are just surrendering and have lost the mental edge, and that will lose them the title.

The Angels beat the Giants in that world series.

In other words you can win pitching around the other teams' best player. Its not "giving up" its not being stupid like having a long mound visit and then grooving a fastball. Someone should check if that pitcher is working some mob poker games lol. Bond hit .471 in that ws and they lost. I don't care if its Mookie batting behind him, make him beat you as its clear as day that Ohtani will.

It's legal and I understand the logic but it still sucks. Even if Manfred went as far as banning IBB's in extra innings, there's nothing to stop a pitcher from "unintentionally" walking someone.

Gotcha. As I said, I hadn't watched any baseball since the last Rangers game. So I didn't know it was for all the playoffs. But it doesn't really make sense. You end games in the 10th or 11th, not go 18, if you implement ghost runner. Better for players, coaches, fans, TV viewers, everyone. No sense in a game going 18 innings and 6-1/2 hours ending. Either that or say no inning can start after 2 a.m. ET or something. Need to do something to make them shorter and more interesting.

Didn't one of the leagues used to have a rule that you couldn't start an inning after like 2am local time?

That sounds like a rule that existed in 1899.

Well an IBB saves 5-6 “nibbles” in the pitch count otherwise.

The AL used to have a curfew of 1am which was used for a game in 1984. There's apparently nothing related to a time curfew in the rulebook today.
