Yeah nothing about that movie makes me want to see it.

Tim Robinson's humor is definitely an acquired taste, for sure. I like his "I Think You Should Leave" series which is short sketches. He also did a series called "Detroiters" a couple of years back which was set at an ad agency.

Robinson and his collaborators on "Friendship" (and those earlier TV series) are reteaming for a new 8 episode series called "The Chair Company" which will premiere on HBO in about 2 weeks, on Oct. 12th.

Robinson plays a man named William Ronald Trosper who, according to Wikipedia, "investigates a far-reaching conspiracy after an embarrassing workplace incident".

One Battle After Another

10/10

Fantastic cast. Relevant story. Incredible score. Basically, it hits on every level.

Movie of the year.

The Naked Gun is on Paramount Plus now as well for folks who missed it. I will say, watching it on the small screen without people to laugh alongside with, does take some of the magic away.

I agree, generally, but a 9/10 from me, so there's a chance I might like one or two movies better than this one in 2025 when all is said and done. Almost for sure will end up in my 2025 Top 5, but definitely not in my PT Anderson Top 5, which is pretty hard to crack at this point with the 5 perfect films he has made.

Sean Penn might get that 3rd Oscar for this.

I agree Penn will likely get an Oscar nom to his role. I felt like his character became a bit too cartoonish at the end though. The movie overall just didn’t click with me. Strong acting though.

Very much enjoyed in theaters, not sure it will play on tv

I found him to be distracting the whole time. Towards the end he was kind of playing a characterize of his character. The three women’s leads stole the show. The long sequence we got or Leo and Del toro was outstanding. I get people love Penn but del Toro is the one who should be talks for best supporting actor.
I enjoyed the movie but the ending didn’t seem totally earned. Trying to not give so much away the leap for one character from when we first see them to the end seems like alot. And the final part felt very Tarantino lite

Really enjoyed it, was well acted and looked great for what it was asked to be. The Leo del toro scenes were amazing. Seen alot of people say it’s the best movie of the century, not sure what else’s I would put there but it was very good

Did they just decide not to promote this movie? I think I’ve seen a single trailer for it while I’ve seen tons for that HIM movie. It did come in at #1 but with a pretty pedestrian $21 million.

We live in a time where a film like this could easily be suppressed in certain areas due to its perceived politics.

"supressed".

That's rich.

The movie had a reported $70 million marketing budget, which is insane for a movie that isn't tagged as a 'blockbuster'.

Maybe the masses just don't really care for the undertones the movie "offers".

Leo isn't a box office draw anymore either.

How exactly could the powers that be “in certain areas” suppress the trailers for a Leonardo DiCaprio movie. It sounds like you’re living in tinfoil hat crazy land. It’s not like they’re local commercials.

The most likely answer is it’s just sheer chance that I’ve seen way more HIM commercials.

Del Toro's a victim of his own greatness in a sense. A role like that seems too easy for him. I loved the look on his face when he said the "bad hombres" line.

Here's a quick 30 or so that would easily make my best-of-the-century-so-far list, including my three favorite P.T. Andersons of the 21st.

Moonlight
Hereditary
Mulholland Drive
There Will Be Blood
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Black Swan
Sideways
Atonement
Licorice Pizza
Pan's Labyrinth
Once Upon A Time...In Hollywood
Whiplash
Ex Machina
Gravity
American Psycho
Wet Hot American Summer
Inherent Vice
Adaptation
Munich
Tropic Thunder
Sicario
CODA
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Brokeback Mountain
Idiocracy
Let The Right One In (and Let Me In, the American remake)
Anchorman
Roma
Grand Budapest Hotel
Bad Santa
Borat
Synecdoche, New York

Highest to Lowest

Watched it at 2:30 this morning.
Love Denzel and Jeffery Wright is awesome.

Spike used some camera angles/tricks/uses (don't know the technical term) that he used with Denzel in Malcolm X.

8.8/10

Never read the comics so I went in blind.

Enjoyed it.

The big three, with two having a shot at $1 billion, are Wicked for Good, Zootopia 2, and Avatar 3.

At a level below tentpole that I can think of Tron Ares, Knives Out 3, Predator Badlands, The Running Man, and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.

At least those are the ones that popped into my head.

Two movies I actually will go see, Frankenstein and Nuremberg. Those dummkopfs in Hollywood will finally get some of my shekels.

Frankenstein is only being released to a few select theaters on October 17 before hitting Netflix on November 7.

So the early reviews are in for Tron:Ares

"Worst movie of the year"
"Jared Leto looks lost and is horribly miscast"
"This movie just completely sucks"
"The special effects irritate and are a jumbled mess"
"Save your money, download the soundtrack instead"

Was looking forward to seeing it myself but I think I've just been talked out of it. I'll just listen to the soundtrack and watch it when it comes out on torrent.

I've heard from a few people who saw it last night that it wasn't half-bad, and they were surprised it wasn't a train wreck.
