Ahhh... so specifically you only mean Bowman products, but scoff at Sapphire and Panini emulating “Atomic”, but not calling it such ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Guess I am in the minority in think an bowman best atomic auto card is nicer than an orange chrome card and can you point out where I scoff at sapphire or panini, especially when I list sapphire as a preference over orange and only refer to panini as I believe the card name cracked ice refers to their cards and not topps cards

I really think Eloy's happy go lucky personality can lead to prolonged spells of being unfocused. I'd put his hitting skills up against anyone in baseball, but he just doesn't have an ounce of killer instinct in him. Real catch-22 because his personality is what makes him such an awesome player to root for (hi mom), but it's also what will hold him back from reaching his potential. Watching a guy have a great time and be a great teammate while effortlessly putting up 0.900 OPS seasons won't be so bad, but I can't help but wonder what if.

I disagree. He has a tendency to be lackadaisical in the OF, but I’ve never doubted his work ethic. And when he gets in that box he is LOCKED in. No smiles or joking, he looks focused. I’ve watched ever Sox game this year, and most last year - does he have bad at bats? Of course. He swings at bad pitches, but I put that more on youth than lack of killer instinct. I don’t really understand how killer instinct applies in baseball. It’s not like taking the ball in your hands at the end of a game to hit a buzzer beater. I think Eloy (and most of them is team) has demonstrated the ability to come up with key hits when needed most, which is as close to killer instinct as you can get in baseball IMO. Manny Ramirez had a pretty outstanding career while being a ho-hum all-smiles kind of guy.

Yeah, “killer instinct” isn’t really a prerequisite for being a great hitter. I’d argue that a relaxed, consistent approach over 600abs is a much bigger factor. Somehow I’d guess that trying harder would only make an already tough task near impossible.

Pete was a different kind of animal no doubt. Most feared? I’m not sure about that. Maybe with a guy on 2nd in a close game. Pretty sure Bondsroid was by far the most feared hitter I’ve seen. For good reason. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Killer instinct doesn't have to mean not having fun or being a jerk on the field. I look at it as being totally locked in and trying to win the battle on every single play/pitch.
Eloy has natural bat to ball and batting eye skills better than 99% of professional hitters, yet he is dead last on the White Sox in pitches seen per plate appearence. He obviously isn't joking around at the plate, but I do believe he isn't as locked in as he could be. |
