Thoughts on Vavra from the Oriole crowd? I pulled a Super of his and wondered if it’s time to let go or does he have an honest shot at making some noise with this club? Appreciate any opinions from those who may have watched him over the last week or so.

I love the Orioles now and every player is going to the plate to get a hit/ playing for a contract. No one is phoning it in. I actually bought a cheap-ish Gunnar Henderson on COMC today using credit in anticipation of his promotion.

In regard to Vavra, I like him early. Another fun guy to watch as you can tell he is invested in every at bat and is happy to be playing in the big leagues. Overall, he may end up being a “he played for the Orioles?” type player but I would just hold on to the card and enjoy the ride. You’d probably regret it more if you sold and missed vs kept and he never materialized. But individual mileage might vary.

As we wait through this rain delay… can we talk about how cool this is?

This team is fun in so many ways. Flashbacks to 2012/14

I don't think we are calling up Gunnar until next year unfortunately but we can hope!

You know things are going well when your game gets rained out and you end up moving into a tie for the last wild card spot (with TB loss):

With a win over TB, O’s now have final wild card spot to themselves.

Roch Kubatko (team beat writer for MASN, which is the TV network owned by the Orioles) stated in an article this morning that Henderson is in line to be promoted soon. I think Gunnar will be up on (or before) September 1. Barring injury.

This isn't true. At all.

Ownership (specifically John Angelos) hired Mike Elias, who made this team possible. While it's true that the Orioles haven't signed any big free agents over the past several offseasons, we quite literally haven't needed any big free agents to be 7 games over .500 as of today, with several prospects (Hall, Stowers, Gunnar, Westburg) on their way to help over the next few weeks.

Mike Elias is absolutely the main reason for the team's success. He's one of the best GM's in baseball and proving it this year. And he's responsible for the front office that you incorrectly claim isn't supporting the team on the field.

Elias claimed Jorge Mateo, Ramon Urias, Tyler Wells, Cionel Perez, Joey Krehbiel, Jorge Lopez, and Austin Voth all off of waivers! Elias signed Spencer Watkins to a minor league contract in 2021. That's insane value and all those guys are/were a big core of this team.

Elias drafted Adley Rustchman and Gunnar Henderson - two #1 prospects in the SAME draft class. Insane value there as well, and we have Mike Elias to thank for it.

Hope you enjoy the Orioles win for the next 10+ years, but I also hope you start understanding how it happened and who's responsible.

As a Baltimore guy but not an Os fan, I do have an outsider view of the Os. And the not paying home grown talent I don’t think will be a problem with this current core/Elias.

Yes they didn’t pay Machado but the team at the point was about to go through a rebuild and it isn’t smart to keep a star player through his prime on a big deal if you’re gonna waste it on awful teams. And obviously they hoped for a better return from the prospects they got but it made sense to trade him

And yes the Os haven’t paid anyone recently but that’s not what you do when you’re rebuilding and want to tank for awhile. You don’t wanna sit in the middle. Os made the correct decision to tank, combine that with really good drafting and excellent development and the Os are one of the most fascinating teams going forward in baseball. Part of it makes me wish I was an Os fan as a Baltimore guy through and through (but I’m loyal to my twins)

Even looking at the trade deadline, yeah trading Mancini was a little weird but it obviously hasn’t affected this team at all as they’re still playing good ball. I probably wouldn’t have traded him considering what he means to the team and city but there’s also a non zero chance he comes back in the offseason. And they got a really good pitching prospect out of it.
Trading Lopez was incredibly smart even though I know a lot of Os fans hated it. You sold high, which is what you’re supposed to do. Lopez obviously doesn’t have much of a track record so you moved him while his value was high. And you have ample bullpen help behind him. Bautista is a dude, handing the reigns over to him was going to be seamless. And you got another solid pitching prospect Povich out of it

To me it very much seems like Elias is viewing 2024 as the year to go for the WS. This year was a setup year to get to near 500 ball and see how some of the prospects do. And then 2023 you’ll see how these prospects do in their first full year of pro ball with guys like Grayson, Hall, Gunnar, Westburg, etc. and then 2024 you get even more pitching return and you’re ready to go for it

But heck, this team may be ready to go for it now lol

There is literally zero chance he isn’t up by September 1st, if not sooner.

Proud to see how excited / pumped Kyle Stowers was when he hit his first MLB homer at the bottom of the 9th (two outs, two strikes) and helping his team to go to the extra innings...

What a win!

They are definitely fun to watch this year and could have a nice 4-5 year stretch of being fun to watch. 7 games over .500 after last night’s 2-0 win over the AL-Best Astros. 2.5 games out of wild card.

Wow… Verlander out after 3 innings and 60 pitches. Wonder if he is wearing down at end of season? He got pulled from his no-hitter last start.

Bummer. Thought we had a good chance at a sweep when Verlander went down early, but still glad to get 2 of 3 from the AL-best team. They still made it interesting in the 9th. This team does not give up!

Woohoo. Gunnar bought me a new Tesla already and doesn’t even know it. Looking forward to this one more than I have in a long time!
