Barkley is a good comp for many reasons, he lost a ton of weight after his rookie year. A few years later he was much slimmer and became a top 10 then top 5 player then MVP.

I hate seeing Zion go the other way.

Yeah he’s told that story a bunch of times, and he just told it again the other night on TNT. He said Moses called him out for being fat, and he actually said he started crying when that happened, but it stuck with him and he started dropping weight right after that. Who in NOLA is going to have that conversation with Zion?

No doubt that BBW will rise again! People want drama and an easy to understand narrative. Never question the facts or underlying circumstances.

He said in off-season interviews that he could and would take his conditioning to another level. Broken foot makes it hard.

Definitely sounds like he overtrained himself with his renewed determination and disappointment from last year's conclusion...and it cost him. Here's hoping it doesn't happen again and he'll take the long and steady road to glory. I understand the 21 year old mindset. They want it all and they want it right now.

I'm down 54lbs this year at 53 years old and I don't have a nutritionist, personal trainer, or an NBA franchise to help me. Sorry, but no excuse for Zion but a total lack of desire... the kid is 21 ffs, he either has some serious emotional issues tied to eating which is a legit concern that the Pelicans should be able to help with, or he just doesn't give a sheet.... either way he is showing no initiative to correct things and is falling further down the rabbit hole... I hope he turns is around before it is too late.....

If Debbie from HR could lose weight on a keto diet while working an 8 hour desk job. No reason an elite athlete with a high metabolic rate couldn't. I don't see Klay with a dad bod after missing almost 2 years of his basketball life.

As one of his biggest fan and supporter, it really pisses me off this guy has already lost a significant amount of time. Didn't win ROY in his 1st year, couldn't lead his team to the playoffs in his sophomore year, now we all have to sit and wait another year to witness that certified signature Superstar leap a player of his caliber should make.

I can take the injuries, you can't control those, but being out of shape too? I'm tired of seeing Lamelo's ugly face on House of Highlights. Zion was supposed to be that guy that reps my era, instead the kid is spending majority of his time on the sidelines these days with a top to bottom AliExpress Naruto drip.

Duke Zion. Come back. Please.

But man...what a bummer. I just re-watched some of his Duke highlights, and he looks like a completely different human being. People keep saying he'll lose weight once he starts playing again...but that entails putting a lot of strain (>300lbs worth) and repeated trauma on his recently operated foot.

As others have also pointed out, he's losing a lot of development time. He should have been working on his game this offseason (had an extended break since the Pels didn't make the playoffs), and we should all be going nuts over how much his jumper/handles have improved. Instead, we're analyzing his Dew commercial and having a "come-to-jesus" moment. Plus, his team is still turrible

I almost think he should just shut it down for the entire season. Allow the foot to fully heal and get back to a normal weight before coming back.

I'm the biggest Zanos stan there is... But you know what disappoints me? No commentary from Z on this matter. He should take the narrative head on. Instead of hiding behind whatever weird curtain the Pels have provided, he should do an interview or tweet about how he is doing. Instead he is sitting in silence while mainstream and social media drag him all day. Control the narrative, Z!
