Sadly no was hoping I could score it cheaper. Now comes the “do I regret this” period. You were dead on with the $1800.

This is a make or break playoff run for the patience of Giannis.
If they get bumped by Miami in Round One its going to be a full slide. The Bucks need to get to the ECF or you will see every Giannis hit the market by the Summer. He needs a different story line at this point. If its same old story where they wall him and he gets frustrated then holders will dump. Huge playoff run for them now or else MVPs or not he will get AD hobby treatment when he was in NO and couldnt get them on a run. You either believe or you dont. If you believe and they can get out of the East his stuff will go nuclear. If you swing and they miss, you may see a long time before his cards hit those levels again. Bucks need to make the Finals. Anything less and i think we'll see the slide continue in the short term.

We are in a phase where second generation Giannis holders are now moving his stuff. First phase was all the folks who got in early, or found cards of Giannis laying around in old Prizm stashes like a buried treasures. That group is a large number of people. Think about how much chatter there was on this thread up through his first MVP year, and how much it's fallen off this last year. Less people with 2013 Prizm lottery tickets right now, less chatter. Now you are at a point Giannis is not cheap, people that own his stuff have a good about of money into it, and now they need to get something out of it. There is a history of this. Think about LeBron's collecting arch. It steadily grew throughout his first few years with the Cavs until 2007 when he took them to the Finals, which ended Phase 1 and started to Phase 2.... Which lasted until he left Cleveland... then you saw a bit of a dip, but thing's were relatively expensive still. Once he won in Miami, Phase 3 started and he was verified in hobby history. The Cleveland title was Phase 4 and it launched him into the all time big 3 in the hobby. In regards to his performance this off-season: A Miami loss would be bad, and collectors would want to see him leave town to get much hobby hype back. But a Brooklyn loss is already baked in. If he loses to Brooklyn but averages 35 and 13 and it's a competitive series, I don't think many people really jump ship that heavy. If they get swept and he struggles, it's not good, but not as bad as losing to Miami. The big upside is if somehow the Bucks win a title this year. Nobody is expecting it. There would be hype as soon as they got by Brooklyn that would carry it's way through the Finals. With no other super stars on the roster, all the cred would go to Giannis. His historical place would jump to top 15-20, along side of guys like Dr. J., all at the age of 26.

Agreed with what’s being said. I will, however, keep buying in the event they lose this year. It isn’t ‘over’ if it doesn’t happen this year and I truly cannot comprehend those who can call ‘game’ on a 26 year old 2x MVP.
I can agree there are better ‘short-term’ buys, but there’s a short list of players who have the potential of Giannis (not mentioning the achievements already under his belt), and to me it seems the guy wants nothing more than to win. I am not nostradamus, none of us are, but I’d personally be shocked if he didn’t have 2+ rings and another MVP or two before all is said and done. Until I see someone else with a higher likelihood at that resume I’m going to stay extremely bullish. |

very well written. Right now you have the believers vs the Non believers.
We can all agree this is a very big post season for Giannis. There may not be another player who can turn the hobby world this postseason upside down except maybe Luka. The only difference I would add is that we are living in a different age today vs when Lebron was going through his early phases. There is no patience and Social Media delivers up to the second hate or glory creating knee jerk collecting reactions. Giannis holders are having their patience wear thin and a first round bump would be ugly. |

Its the most volatile time to buy or Sell Giannis right now.
In my opinion hes a great long term hold...but if they get bumped in round 1 or 2 , the summer into the Winter will be prime buying time. Love Giannis but something about this Bucks team feels off. |

This may be one of my favorite takes I’ve read on here and I appreciate you sharing.
I don’t bother with the MJ / LeBron comps because it’ll start this thread off on a path I don’t want it to, but recency bias is crazy w/ Giannis (more than anyone IMO). I’d loved to have seen these threads as active as they are today during Jordan and Bron’s early career runs. Neither won until 27/28 if I’m not mistaken, which gives Giannis a year (or 2 even) to remain on a GOAT trajectory. I’d have loved the hot takes in the LBJ thread prior to Miami in today’s climate. |

I think the 3rd mvp is more likely than 2 championships. Only like 10 teams have won since 1980. It’s ridiculously hard.

Also agreed though that a first round bump would not be good whatsoever (for those holding, for those wanting to buy it’ll be Christmas in May:June) |

I agree here as well. I will be the first to admit I’m wrong if this playoff goes differently, but Holiday/Middleton isn’t getting the job done behind Giannis. I was and am still very frustrated that’s what the Bucks managed to put together.

I think the championship window is wide open: No one knows how healthy LeBron is gonna be Same with Harden (plus Kyrie being Kyrie) Next in line are Sixers, Clippers and Bucks. If the Bucks were in the West, I'll jump at their chances in a heartbeat. But I don't think they can beat a healthy Sixers team or even a slightly injured Brooklyn one.

good post - but I think part of the answer to the bolded is simply that the Bucks aren't the #1 team in the East right now, and Giannis is not looking like the MVP either. Being the MVP on the #1 team brings chatter/hype. With those factors not a reality right now, it boils down to playoff success to bring the chatter/hype. And the interesting things is that his team is probably better now than it was [at least for playoff success - can't win when Bledsoe is trying to be the #3 on the team]. |
