Craig never deterred from inside the bag, therefore his bade path was chosen along the inside. Had he run on the outer half, he'd have been out because he ran out of the chosen base path. This is Baseball 101.

Craig hurt on the play. =/

They are called Umpires, not refs.

hey he gave it a nice try, but without the obstruction Craig walks home end of game. He did it because he knew the game was over, easy call.

I think if you check you will find that he has been rated by the players as one of the best umpires in baseball.

Aside from his defining moment, he is consistently one of the best umps in the game:

0 faith in Buchholz tomorrow, we need to get to Lynn. Make this a hitters game. Rosenthal and Martinez hafta be gassed.

I have faith still, wish we didnt give away 2 games on stupid throws.

What a momentum stealer a win tonight woulda been.

I still can't wrap my mind around them pitching to Jay. I don't even care if Beltran is on deck, let alone Pete Kozma. Walk Jay, corners in, 2 in the middle, force play at any base. No let's have the whole infield in and have to rely on a play like this. Piss poor managing in the top and bottom of the ninth from Farrell.

lol he tried to draw a call? Give me a break. So instead of just heading home for an easy score you think that he intentionally tried to draw an obstruction call from the umpire? yea ok that makes a lot of sense.....

Because aside from one horrible call with that APG, he is one of the best umps in the game. He made the right call again tonight.

This is why the Cardinals need to be in the World Series every year. There's always something wacky and relatively exciting waiting to happen when they're on the scene.

I'd like to once again stress that THE RUNNER (ALLEN CRAIG) defines the base path. He ran on the INSIDE of the baseline. THIS IS LEGAL. THE RUNNER (ALLEN CRAIG) chooses to run ON THE INSIDE or THE OUTSIDE of the baseline. Once THE RUNNER CHOOSES WHICH SIDE TO RUN ON, they cannot change it mid-stride or else they will be called out. Not once does THE RUNNER (ALLEN CRAIG) change from the inside of the line to the outside. THE RUNNER (ALLEN CRAIG) CHOSE TO RUN ON THE INSIDE AS OPPOSED TO THE OUTSIDE. Baseball 101.

I'm sorry. I get it, Sox fans, you're upset. I would be, too. Nobody wanted to lose a game like that, I guarantee you that. But you're grasping at straws.

Can you imagine how this forum would have blown up if the tables were turned and the Red Sox had won the game on the same play, just something to ponder

Good night all it's only 18 hrs. until Game 4, should be an interesting matchup as we here in Boston have no clue what to expect from Buchholz!

I don't know...I can't really say he tried to draw a call, happened too fast for him to think about that. I just don't think it was as clear of an obstruction call as some think. I don't think anything should have been called, but I don't think the throw to third should have been made in the first place.

Sox in 7.

The mere fact you are STILL trying to justify the call makes me think the just maybe you also have some doubt!
