Even though he’s not a Dodger any more, I couldn’t pass this one up.

What’s the general consensus on Seager hobby wise? Now that he’s with the Rangers does he need an MVP like season to see any uptick in his cards?

That would be my sense. If he had gone to a hobby-strong team, such as the Yankees, there would be a lot of clamoring for his cards right now. But the Rangers just don’t generate that kind of buzz. I’d say Yelich is a good example of Seager’s potential. While leaving the Dodgers is different than leaving the Marlins, I don’t know that going to Milwaukee is much of an advantage over Texas. If he comes out producing right away, then the hobby will respond favorably. But he absolutely has to stay healthy this year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Well it was cool to see him launching homers in Dodger Stadium again. Nice to see his pops tossing to him in the derby too.

It was nice, but unfortunately he has gone to hobby purgatory

Nice reminder of what was. Like you earlier post, I've had trouble looking at my Seager Dodgers PC of autos and numbered cards. Was planning to move most of them, but he's gone to that hobby purgatory mentioned above. Oh well.

Yes, Seager is in hobby purgatory. However, he is a shortstop with 22 HR and who’s been heating up lately.
He would have to go on a tear coming out of the break. But there is an opportunity for him to approach a .300/40/100 season (maybe it’s .287/38/102), get his OPS above .900, and ultimately garner some hobby attention again. In other words, now’s not exactly the best time to sell, but he will have another moment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Good analysis. I’ve been able to pick up a few BC autos I’ve been wanting. I hope he stays hot although they’re going on a long road trip just after the break and he seems hit a lot better at home, as expected. |

Just cracked .800 ops and looks like he’s on pace for 35 or so homeruns.

Shift going away may help him. They estimate he lost the most hits since 2020 due to the shift (50 hits). He has made 90 outs this year hitting lineout or grounder when there were 3 defenders to the right of second base. Next highest is Kyle Tucker with 66.

Who was the last hobby relevant Ranger? Teixeira? Hamilton? Juan Gonzalez? Nolan Ryan?
Has there ever been one? Teixeira is the only one that i can ever remember having a big buzz about him. |

5 games left in the regular season for Seager (also his jersey number)
While he made the ASG (alternate), took some big swings in the Derby, and set a record for most homeruns in a season by a Left-Handed hitting Shortstop, and managed to stay mostly healthy, overall would say it was a disappointing season individually and definitely team-wise...but of course anything would have been since he left a team that just won its 110th game of the season anyways, I haven't quite kicked the habit so sharing a few pickups of the last few months where I filled in parts of my collection (a few 1/1s, a few graded slabs for the right price) Usually don't go for sticker autos, but i like this card for the photo and because to my knowledge his 2016 TC auto has never surfaced Was able to pick up the 2017 THC Superfractor from another BO member i have done deals with in the past. very easy. i almost picked this up ~5 years ago when it was surfaced but wasn't quick enough to close the deal. the card is great looking in hand but a bit flat in scans/photos I am trying to collect the full run of "black refractors" and gold refractors for THC. note, in 2016 Seager didn't have a chrome, in 2017 it was blue, and in 2020 it was white. I now have all the years in PSA except the 2020 white (maybe eventually). Had the blue, got the black back in a group sub, and purchased the 19 and 21 recently (they really pop) Still trying to finish my run of THC Golds, still hunting for the 2019 and 2021 (raw or graded). |

I didn't realize Seager had the record for most homeruns in a season for a left-handed shortstop. |

Thanks! Yep previous single season record was 30 by Brad Miller. Career record is 139 by Brandon Crawford.
Apparently according to a Hardball Times article I read, at bats by left handed hitting shortstops are the lowest of any position player group. The one exception to that general rule is right handed hitting, left handed throwing position players. These guys are generally OF or 1B. Less than 60 Ever in MLB history. |

Damn. Was off to a sizzling start. Blows up the two man OF shift with a slam dunk triple and pulls a hammy. What terrible luck.

Trea Turner gets hot, and his thread blows up. Seager is looking like possibly the best hitter in baseball (when he’s healthy), and he gets no love.
It’s true that Seager’s bad luck with injuries ha hampered yet another season. However, he is having what is otherwise one of the more extraordinary offensive seasons in a while—particularly for a shortstop. He’s played only 104 games, which is a tad less than two-thirds of a season. And yet he has 41 doubles and 31 homers, for a total of 72 extra-base hits. That’s a 162-game pace of 112 xbh, which would be the third most all-time behind only Babe Ruth in ‘21 and Gehrig in ‘27. Even if he were able to play 155 games, that would put him on pace for 107 xbh, which would tie for third most in a season with Bonds (‘01) and Chuck Klein (1930). There have only been 15 100-xbh seasons in history, so this pace is in itself quite extraordinary. Of course, Seager won’t het there, because he missed a month or so with injury. But the dude is for real. And if could just stay healthy…… As it is, he qualifies for the rate stats, and leads the AL in average, slugging, and OPS. A monster season that deserves to be recognized. And, similar to sentiments expressed about Yordan, hopefully he can stay healthy and show us what he’s capable of doing in a full, post-shift season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Absolute monster season. If he carries them to the playoffs, it will really be remarkable.

I didn’t believe anybody had a shot at Ohtani for MVP but if Seaver continues to dominate and be a leader in as many AL stats as he is ? ? ? |
